Hi!

I've bought Gremlins, Inc. with the intention to play solely the offline single player mode (so, Gremlins Vs Automatons). Because of that I installed only that product (Gremlins Vs Automatons). I'm surprised to have a problem from the get-go and hope to get a solution to it.

I started the game and am being asked to "Enter a name" with a rotating loading icon below that query window. When I enter a name (I figure it's asked because more than one person can make a profile to play the game at different times?) I get a new window telling me: "Entered password does not match entered email address. Please try again." with a continue button below that closes the "Entered password..." window and leaves me with the "Enter your name" window and the loading rotating icon. Is there something I am doing wrong here? The version I ran is: Beta v.1.0.0.202.

Thanks for any help.

Edit: When the game is installed on your computer using the "installation launcher" provided by GOG, the .exe file and the folder containing the game have a typo in them. The game is spelled "Gremlins Vs Automotons" in both instances. Just a heads up to either GOG or the devs.

Hey there!

Please detail the OS that you're using, and when did you download the build from GOG?

The "beta" part indicates that you're launching the version that is not a release build.

I downloaded the game yesterday May 13 2017. The download on GOG's page reads:
Gremlins, Inc. --- Public.1.0.202.3 --- 736 MB

and it contained the aforementioned Beta v.1.0.0.202.
Edit: Since it might be helpful, it contained:
setup_gremlins_inc_public.1.0.202.3_(11867).exe
setup_gremlins_vs_automotons_1.0.0.202_(11264).exe

My OS is Windows 7 (64-bit).

And I'll quote the edit from my post above with some information that might be interesting to you (or GOG) in case you missed it:

thanks for this, I'm not sure where we're building the launcher specifically but I'll share this with both our and GOG's side tomorrow morning so that we can rectify this. good find!

on the main issue:

the screen asks for your name as we have no way of knowing the name from any platform profile in the offline edition, and we're showing in-game stats – so we need a handle to display there.

normally the game should progress from you having entered the name to the main menu of the game.

i just ran a clean download on both Mac and Win systems and in both instances things worked fine.

let me get our programmer on this, and we'll try to dig deeper. i'm pretty confused by the mention of "password" as this does not exist in the product in its current state.

i'll update this thread in a while, with the new info.

Hi there.

Can you please send us your output_log.txt? You can find it in the game's folder, \Gremlins_vs_Automatons_Data

Please send it at av(at)charlieoscar.net (@ replaces (at)) with the link to this topic so it could be used as a description of the situation.
Thanks, I'll bring your attention to the fact I've updated my second post (in the hope you'd see it before answering). If you haven't, you have the name of the .exe files I got from my download on the GOG page (with a typo in the the .exe setup file too for automatons). I'll check back later.

I've just sent the information. Please note I rarely check my emails, but will check this thread for more information thank you.

Thanks for this. We'll look into this in the morning on Monday (tomorrow) and I/Qfasa will respond in this thread once we have some news. Our apologies for not being able to play on this weekend & we'll do our best to find a solution for you as soon as possible.

And hello again.

We found where the wrong password/email thing came from, and will be fixing this.

However we're curious as to when this thing is even triggered.

Could you please share the name you enter? Maybe it contains some special characters?

(that's one of the possibilities, which may call out a wrong dialogue on our side)

The name I was entering was: "me". When I saw your message I started the game to describe what was happening step by step, tried your name "sergei" and it worked. The menu appeared. Now, not that I don't like your name or anything (best name ever and all that...), but where do I change that name? :)

Edit: Actually, I was curious if it was as ridiculous as entering "me" in the field (and also I wanted to know if sergei would persist through the uninstalling and re-installing of the game). So I did just that, tested "me" again and sure enough it didn't work (got the email message). Entered another word and it worked (got the menu). Being me is just not enough in your game, got to be more. ;)

Have a nice day / evening / night Mr Sergei "best-name-ever" Klimov.

Maybe the AI is trying to say something about the buddhist values, the problems connected with the duality and all that =).

On a serious note: thanks for the test, this is enough for us to go and catch the issue. I'll post back when we get to the heart of it.

As for now, happy to hear that the game is running for you, and our apologies for the inconvenience caused.
Hello there.

Please update the game, the issue should be fixed now.
https://www.gog.com/forum/gremlins_inc/gremlins_vs_automatons_hotfix_16052017

The problem with "me" is that before the name's length was restricted by 3 letters minimum, and for the shorter names a wrong message would be displayed. Now your name can be as short as 1 letter if you so desire.

In order to create a new profile please remove (or rename) the file "user.dat" in the game's folder \Gremlins_vs_Automatons_Data\
