True, and I think Risen has pretty much come close to equaling the Gothic name value anyway, and the core gameplay seems to be the same.

haha keep seeing you around the gothic forums ;D. But yeah I played risen 1 only things I didn't like were the lack of actually good side quests...and risen 2 I didn't like at all lol

Yeah this forum needs a little more activity haha. I haven't played Risen 2, but I haven't heard anything good about it, so I wonder if there will be a Risen 3.

I enjoyed parts of Risen 1, but overall it was just really clunky, the story was really lackluster, and it had all the bad parts of the Gothic series and none of the good parts. Plus none of the voice actor's could decide on which accent they were were supposed to use, which gave the feeling that the voice acting sessions went along the lines of "Okay for this line I'm English, and for the next I'm Australian, then Irish!". However I only played the first two chapters, so maybe it suddenly went from "average at best" to "best game this year"...but I doubt it haha.

Risen was okay... I am afraid the last chapters were even worse, so I guess you would not have been to happy with the game in the end.
Risen 2 was awful but had some success in the box office, as far as I know, so a third game is likely to be produced.
I would still rather see a good Risen 3 than a bad Gothic 4 / 5.

There is a message on the PB site under "Our games" section, it say's:

"Currently the team is working on an unannounced new roleplaying game."

This can mean 3 things at least - either Risen 3, new Gothic or entirely new game/franchise. There were rumours i read somewhere on the web it would be "risen 3 - blazing oceans" although we can't be certain.

Also, in worldofrisen i read they plan on "going back to their roots" and have a "dark atmosphere" for their new game, whatever that means :)

Really good interview and the possibility for a new gothic is not very bright although not impossible... I dunno what to think anymore guys, seems like our expectations would be humongous indeed... PB is a great dev but as and you guys mentioned probably many of the old guys that worked on the gothic franchise are long gone now and their development process is not the same as it was before - much more pressured and time-efficient demanding . Maybe a new game with the gothic spirit will be the best bet, a spiritual successor of sorts? Or as mentioned in the interview a HD remake of the previous series... At any case whatever they decide to do i'll be fine couse they are are a great dev team. Wish em luck.

Risen 2 has also mistakes.

I still remember back in 1999 when I started following Gothic 1 on Desslock's Gamespot blog. Bought it for Christmas 2 years later and was instantly hooked. Huge fan of the series ever since and have beaten each one (and Risen 1/2) numerous times.

Now, as for Gothic 5...I think we may be getting it. I have a theory they will connect the Risen and Gothic storylines after Risen 3 and then rename it to an entirely new name. I saw a map a little while ago where they merged both game's maps and it worked. We already know the "Nameless and Xardas banish the gods" ending is essentially how Risen 1 starts, so they *can* be linked.

I don't really think Gothic 3 and Risen 2 are so bad. They get unfair treatment by my fellow hardcore fans because they were watered down. Jowood was responsible for G3 and the consoles were to blame for Risen 2. Just let the feelings go and be done with it.

I was hoping that I will see this in Risen 2, but it didn't happen. It doesn't seem anything like this in Risen 3, either.

But then again, we don't know much about Risen 3. Never understood this secrecy before a new release.

Nope. Not anymore.

I absolutely loved Gothic 1 and a little less Gothic 2. Gothic 1 especially was a fantastic, new, interesting setting, the story was nice. The combat ... back then it was ok. Gothic 2 was also great but more of a common fantasy setting, it even had dragons. But Gothic 1, the prison colony, awesome, still love it.

The problem is, they keep redoing Gothic and so much of that game is just not up-to-par anymore. Not the story of course, but all kinds of gameplay, mechanics etc.

Gothic 3 was terrible, but back then I thought it was because they had been rushed by Jowood. But then Risen 1 and 2 also didn't turn out great. I didn't play either very much, so I don't know about the story aspect.

But the combat system, movement, character models, animations, gameplay are pretty much the same as in Gothic 1, they really, REALLY aren't great. I just couldn't get into both Risen games because everything just felt so terrible. Combat, movement, controls, inventory, conversations... pretty much everything not story-related.

I'm afraid they *can't* make a truly modern game, and I don't mean graphics-wise, that's not that important. I've been playing a lot of Dark Souls 1 and 2 recently and there are plenty of other great examples of well-made modern RPGs, first and foremost Witcher 1 and 2.

I want controls, movement, animations, combat that are up-to-snuff. Hell, I'd definitely buy a modern, HD Gothic 1 remake/reboot with all those elements improved to modern standards.

Actually, I would buy a remake of the first three Gothic games as well. I wonder how hard it would be for them to port them to a modern engine, upgrade the graphics to a modern standard and do some slight gameplay tweaks...

Backing a project of PB ? not in a million years, after risen 2 and now risen 3 being a complete action game more than an a proper rpg, it saids a lot about the company and where is heading...
