Hello everyone,

I've recently started playing Gothic 1 and like the game so far. There's just one thing I'm really having trouble getting past and that's lockpicking.

I've tried watching videos from Youtube, some guides from Steam and GOG, but still can't figure it out.

1. I've tried to listen for the "click" as suggest in some guides when you use right or left keys correctly, but the sound is the same every time for me. Am I missing something?

2. I've tried using the lockpick breaks message to try an record how many times right or left keys are used before the lockpick breaks. Is there a better way?

I'm really stuck when it comes to chests in this game now and any help would really be appreciated.

Thanks!

If you don't know the combinations this is trial and error then basically. So, yes your second point is exactly how it is.

Thank you for the reply appreciate it. I actually had the answer and didn't even know it lol, duh <smacks forehead>.

Turns out I stopped playing the game a few months back and forgot about the lockpicking messages. My save was at the Sunken Tower that needed keys, but for some reason I completely forgot about how lockpicking works.

I wasted several hours attempting to open it wasting my weekend and frustration I guess blinded me to the obvious LOL.

Edit: Just FYI, for anyone else that gets stuck like I did after some time away.

There should always be a message to let you know that your left or right key action is working or good.

If you only get the fail message going left or right, then it likely needs a specific key. Hope nobody else wastes time like I did lol.
