I have purchased downloaded and installed Gothic 1 and would really like to play.
But I've run into a snag . . . when i click the icon to launch it nothing happens. Gothic.exe and gogwrap.exe are shown in the processes but nothing shows up on screen.
I have tried using the Run As Administrator trick, I installed the game without antivirus software installed on my system and tried the widescreen resolution fix from the sticky. I've also tried using Run in XP Compatability Mode.
Submitted an email to GOG support over 12 hours ago still waiting to hear back, but I thought I give the forum a try.
My system,
Vista Ultimate x64
Intel i7 core
6gb DDR3 ram
nvidia geforce 9800gtx+
I'd love to hear any tips thanks.

Check this thread.

Looks like the big influx of new owners for the game have brought a rather widespread and annoying bug to many threaded attention. hopefully its something gog can fix for future downloads of the game.

Any Ideas from anyone else GOG spoke to me on Monday of this week but I haven't heard back from them since.

Are you sure you disabled all HP drivers? You have seen my thread (http://www.gog.com/en/forum/gothic/game_won_amp_039_t_launch/4).
Originally I couldn't get it to work either, but a lot of HP hosts pretty much fucked my game over. Try it again.

Have you tryed to run the game on a single core?
I have a similar problem with Gothic 1. Exiting (fully, not simply disabling) my firewall allows the game to play.
I usually have to exit it to install games from GOG but having to in order to play them is new.

Most firewalls have some sort of whitelist feature (called "trusted programs", "safe files", or a similar term); anything you add to that whitelist will be monitored much less thoroughly or ignored completely.

I've given everything related full access but for some reason it still doesn't work. Like I said, even disabling the firewall doesn't do the trick, but the second I click exit, Gothic boots.
