I started by buying Gothic 1 and 2 for steam and after paly7ing it some i ran into a problem the gamer won´t lunch so i bought it here on GOG.

Same problem the game won´t start.

I tried running it in compatibility mode for Windows XP service pack 3 and Administrator.

Nothing.

I then programed my firewall to ignore all things in SysWOW64

And still nothing the game won´t start.

Maybe its my Radon graphic card i don´t know anyone know how to help?

If applicable, you could also try reinstalling the games into folders outside of Program Files.

I agree with Kezardin on this. You probably need to install it outside of C:\Program Files (x86)\. That's a protected operating system folder in Windows 7 and the game was designed to function without the restrictions that Windows 7 places on it.

Are you saying that you were able to run the game in the past and now you can't? Or are you saying that it has never worked for you?

Try closing all your unnecesary applications by using task manager, The gothic game are hogs with memory.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I've discovered that I experience the same problem (Gothic 2 simply won't start) when I have an internet browser open (Chrome in my case). As soon as I close down Chrome, Gothic 2 starts right up. I can see the Gothic2.exe in task manager, apparently trying to start, but as long as I have Chrome open, the game won't start. Almost immediately after I close Chrome, BOOM, title screen.

NOW, however, I just this morning discovered the same issue when my internet was down. This leads me to believe that the Gothic2.exe somehow attempts an internet connection before it will start.

Has anyone heard of this behavior, or better yet, heard of any way to resolve it? ...maybe some setting in the ini file to prevent internet connection, or ..... something?

Gothic isn't trying to use the internet, rather it is that Chrome and Gothic are both trying to use hardware acceleration at the same time, and for some reason Gothic does so in a way that doesn't work alongside Chrome. You can probably resolve this by disabling Chrome's hardware acceleration, but that could reduce Chrome's performance to some degree.

Thanks for the input, Arkose! This is what I used to think as well, but because G2 won't start in the same way when I have no internet connection, I wonder if or how it could be related. It just seems odd that the lack of an internet connection would cause the same thing to happen.

Since I can't Alt-Tab out of G2 while playing anyway, I don't need Chrome open, so it's not a problem for me to play G2 with Chrome shut down. But, it does bother me that I can't play when I have no internet.

I solved problem with gothic 1 doesn't start (gog version) by not starting the game with default shortcut . Instead, I went trough install folder for example- E:/game/gothic/system and then started a game by icon in that folder.

It runs fine, even without any delay time. Hope it helps.

What amazes me is that "Steam" keeps selling people games that are not compatible with their system with no warning whatsoever.

For me restart of the pc fixed the problem (don't start other programs than gog/gothic afterwards). The issue could be related to browsers using hardware acceleration. But who knows

Installation of mods (System Pacs) worked for me, so if someone still has a problem, check it out, you find it just right in the link above ;)
