Has anyone gotten this game to run under Windows XP? I haven't, I don't know if support is working on this problem as they don't seem to answer my e-mails ) :

I'm running it under XP, and it's working correctly. I haven't played much (yet), but I did get to Old Camp; controls work ok, videos play, everything seems fine.

Yeah, I'm on an old Dell Dimension 8200 (Which is what I played Gothic II on) with XP. And it runs fine. I'm on Chapter 2 now, and absolutely loving it. As I stated in another thread, after playing Gothic 2 I purchased 3 and it totally SUCKED IMO, but 1 is simply amazing.
As for the controls, I set up my Logitech Precision Gamepad so that I only have to use the gamepad, and it is freaken amazing. I run, I fight, I jump, EVERYTHING with my gamepad and it flows wonderfully. I lean back in my chair with my wonderful surround sound speakers blasting (and letting me know where enemies are, when an enemy is behind me, it really sounds like its behind me, I turn around, and there is that Wolf I heard growling).
I played Gothic II with the gamepad too, but it had built in gamepad support to assign the gamepad keys. In Gothic 1, I had to use the Logitech software and assign the gamepad keys to equal keyboard keys, but it works like an absolute charm. I can't imagine playing it with a keyboard after experiencing the thrill and ease of the gamepad. TONS OF FUN, AND IT WORKS ON XP ! ! !

Actually, I just posted how it runs great. However, I've been noticing people keep talking about videos playing, so maybe mine doesn't work fine. I'm on Chapter 2 now and I haven't seen any videos play (well, except for the opening game video, which played fine). Am I missing something?? Should I be seeing in-game videos on a regular basis???

Yeah, I figured it worked for most people. I think me and Grey are having the same problem, though. I wanted an attention-grabbing post title that they would possibly answer, since neither of us is getting much love with support. I have posted my problem 7 times to support, and got one response telling me to do something I had already tried (and told them about). I have gotten lots of help from users on this forum. Haven't fixed it yet, but I appreciate the assistance.

Since everyone is getting it to run OK, then it must not be an XP problem. Are you running the latest XP (Service Pack 3)? And what are your computer specs? I know I've had problems with games never getting started because of sound issues. Nascar 2003 had that problem, it would lock up at start-up everytime. It fixed itself when I updated my sound drivers.
It could be sound drivers, video drivers, a DirectX issue, or a multitude of others. Do your specs meet the minimum requirements as far as memory and video card requirements??
If you and Grey posted exact specs, everyone else looking may find what it is that's unique to your systems and someone may be able to help.

NEVERMIND!!! I updated my drivers like I should've done in the first place, seems to work now. At least, I got to menu screen, just wanted to get on here and tell you guys before anyone started wading through my system specs. Thanks guys.
GREYSPIRIT: I don't know if your problem can be fixed the same way, but I went to nVidia website and got updates, restarted, and seem to be good to go. I also downloaded a program called Scan Doctor which goes through and tells you whats out of date. It eventually wants money, but tells you what it is first, so I went and updated myself and didn't pay anything. Good luck.

Gothic 2 out of a box runs on this PC, if that helps, which makes me think it's something GOG-specific. But I don't know much about it.

178.24 is the latest Nvidea driver for the 6600. However, looking at your post listing the specs it lists something other than 178.24 as the driver. I know this because the date listed on your specs is sometime in 2007. Driver version 178.24 is dated October of 2008. It can be downloaded here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_178.24_whql.html
If you're comfortable with changing drivers, you really should at least try it. If you update to the new drivers and the game still won't run, you can always revert back to the old drivers if you wish. And at least then we'll know it wasn't video drivers causing your problem.
What kind of sound card does your system have? I didn't see that listed, and I can confirm that bad/old sound drivers can prevent games from running. For me, Nascar 2003 would never load. I uninstalled it and re-installed it about a dozen times, but it would never run. It would install, then when I tried to run it, it would lock up or kick me out. Once I updated my sound drivers, it ran fine and has been ever since.

You are correct OldFatGuy, that was the spec sheet I sent to GOG originally. I had since updated my video drivers which is why NVIDIA was saying I had the latest drivers installed. I took your advice and updated sound card drivers. Gothic still won't load althougr I can see it running onder processes. Here is my current configuration.
