Hi guys!

I'm here to testify what I wrote in the subject, basically after one afternoon spent on trying to make the game work on Win11.

What I tried was: CFF Explorer to say to the .exe game please use more than 2GB memory before saying memory full, but that was to no avail.

I strictly followed the installation guide reported by that saint ;) on Steam but basically the game crashes each time I try to load a savegame if not after some time of playing... I must say that the game also stutters on Win11.

I tried of course a lot of compatibility combinations till WinME/'98: no change.

Then it occurred to me: man I have Linux on my PC and Lutris+Wine there waiting for me.

So I installed the game - bought here in GOG - again in Linux (well to be honest it was faster than in Win), I applied all the patches and... surprisingly... the game works flawlessly. I mean at least today I played a long session - more or less 3hrs - and no issues not of anything. Furthermore the in-game movements are totally smooth and no stutter as of now has to be reported.

I don't know if tomorrow after the loading of the game everything will be fine but... I mean I closed the game not from the crash window but from the Exit button and that never happened to me in Win11 :)

Well anyway if you don't hear from me anymore please consider everything is working fine.

If you want some Linux detail just to be sure, feel free to ask.

Kind regards and happy exploring Myrtana!

Gothic 3 is one of those games like Starbound where the graphics are hot loaded from the hard drive. This is one of those things that caused a great deal of stuttering. Technology has finally caught up with the game as now a lot of people will load the game onto an SSD. I have done so and the game works much better.

Congrats on a great play session!

someone from the community made a patch that recompiles the exe for multi threaded performance - called the parallel universe patch - which solved the stuttering issue
