I just finished the game and had a few unused/unknown items that I tried. May be old news but:

Mind altering potion (used to cure Fortuno at the bandit camp in the swamp) - I brewed an extra thinking I could cure Lester's and Angar's headaches but no option to do so happened. It gave me 1500 exp when I drank it - VERY CHEAP experience!

Black ore that I never found a use for (I know that some task requires it - I just didn't have it happen) seems to make one drunk or something.

The double hammer causes a horrific HP loss.

The single hammer acts like a speed potion.

Q: Angar disappeared - not on the ship when I left. Is this normal?

That's interesting about Fortuno's potion; I'll have to try that next time.

Black ore is meant to sort of slow time. It was first added in the expansion and isn't required for anything. I never bothered with it.

I made extensive use of the hammer potion; from memory it's much cheaper than the proper speed potions while lasting just as long, plus it has the added coolness of being made by pirates instead of wussy alchemists. ;)

Angar disappearing isn't normal; anyone you recruit for the ship is meant to be there for the final chapter.

He actually disappeared AFTER the undead dragon was killed (? - can you kill something that is already dead?). He was at the ship each time I returned prior to that. I went all over the ship looking for him but finally decided to sail off. A good leader doesn't let his crew behind :)

The reefers slow time too - is there any use for that? It seems more in the way then anything.

Also - has anyone found a use for the whirlwind scroll (other then selling it)? I originally thought it might be useful to clean the novice quarters (a task for becoming a fire magician) but that didn't work so well.
