Does the original Gothic work on Windows 7 x64? The store page says only XP /Vista, and I want to make sure it will work before I purchase.

I just finished it a few days ago on Windows 7 x64, but I have an older DVD version. I don't know any reason why the GOG version wouldn't work though.

I recently gave the game to a friend who ran it on Win 7 x64 without any problems.
I myself (same OS) still use the old CD version, which didn't even deign to start to begin with, but I managed to get it running via vigorous patching and fiddling (it runs perfectly now, better than back in the day, I dare say).
So, chances are the game is going to work fine for you, but I imagine Gog does not feel comfortable in offering a guarantee for newer systems, hence the sys reqs on the store page.
Thanks for the replies. I guess GOG has the 30 day guarantee so I'll give it a shot.

Be careful... GOG normally does not offer refunds if someone buys a game without ensuring their system meets the system requirements. Generally, if you buy a game to run it on a system that is not specified as supported, and it doesn't work they will probably not offer a refund. Refunds cause chargebacks that cause them to actually lose money on refunds. If they do not claim an OS is supported they're telling people who have that system "don't buy this, we've warned you in advance" so to speak.

Apologies for the thread necro, but nobody mentioned this and I thought I should share the info to help save people frustration who might try that approach in the future.

Using Win 7/64 with GOG version: works fine.
I am currently running both NotR and the vanilla Gothic 2 on a Win7/64 system.

The games install and launch fine, but I found that with both of them you need to also install the Systempack.
This will get rid of the random "File not found" crashes as well as the most annoying mouse freeze which may happen frequently in the middle of a fight (when using Gothic2 combat controls).

Just to add my two cents...

If the game looks like it's not loading after a double click, but it shows up in the Task Manager, give it some time and don't close the program. It'll load after a minute or so.

Not sure if any patches fix that issue.

I have to modify what I said prior - I did end up having an issue, a mouse freeze, that happened a lot (Gotic I, GOG version). User patches did not totally cure this but did lessen the amount. The game ran fine but the freezes were irritating as they always happened during a fight and required a quick double escape to fix but it was not game ending.

I experienced that mouse freeze in both Gothic1 and Gothic2.
In either case it turned out to be completely fixed after installing the Systempack.

I guess my luck is off as I have the system pack loaded.
