I made gamepad profiles for my XBox 360 controller in Pinnacle Game Profiler for Gothic 1 and 2 as seen in this thread:

I tested the games and it seems to work fine. However, I think that both games are (but especially Gothic 2) are better when controlled with mouse and keyboard.
You can get more information about profiles and the Pinnacle Game Profiler (which I think is better than Xpadder) in the thread I linked to above.
If you just need the profiles, get them here:
Gothic 1: http://netload.in/dateirfv0d4M26W/Gothic.pin.htm
Gothic 2: http://netload.in/dateitehEbH7OcQ/Gothic%20II.pin.htm
Just set the game to Keyboard and Mouse and set default values.
This is made for XBox360 controllers but should work with all Xinput compatible controllers.
Just don't forget to adjust your directories.
