And a related question: Does it contain fan mod/patch files that can be used on Gothic 1?

I just bought Gothic 1 and it won't run for me. What looks like a command prompt window pops up that says Gothic 1.08k and just freezes there. Actually, I tried three times. One time the game did start, but when I tried to change the resolution in settings, the game froze in a black screen.

I know Gothic needs fan patches/mods more than most games to work smoothly, but I read online that SystemPack is no longer developed. There is Union (SystemPack 2.0) that hasn't gotten as much traction. And another Spine Management Tool that may also be outdated. I am getting confused, and I don't need this kind of complications.

But I saw before that The Chronicles of Myrtana: Archolos is very well received total conversion for Gothic 2. Sometimes these high quality mods also make use of core user mods/patches. I feel like I can trust whatever the makers of Myrtana used to update the Gothic 2 resources to something that worked for them.

So my question is, does the Myrtana mod upgrades the core Gothic 2 experience to something like a modded version?

Related but not essential, does it contain core mods/patches/toots that I can use to patch/mod Gothic 1?

Thank you.
The Chronicles of Myrtana: Archolos is a story-driven modification ( module ) for Gothic 2. It does not change the base game, but ads a new plot-line to play separately from the main story.

Gothic 1 and 2 use different versions of the same engine. Patches for Gothic 2 are normally incompatible with Gothic 1 and vice versa.

Try to install Gothic 1 Player Kit first. Then update it with GothicFPS patch.

Run the game using GothicMod.exe instead of Gothic.exe.

If it still is not working, you can wait for full implementation of Gothic 1 game in OpenGothic engine.

Thank you very much for the helpful information. I wouldn't have found Open Gothic otherwise. It's also good to know that The Chronicles of Myrtana doesn't improve the core game. I think CoM alone is worth a buy right anyway.

I wanted to try Gothic 1's unusual control scheme and also to play 1 before 2 because I read the two games are closely related. It seems not meant to be. I'll wait for the Gothic 1 remake. Or for one single patch to rise above the rest to address most of Gothic 1's modern issues , like TSLRCM and VTMB Unoffical Patch.
You can also try to run Gothic with dgVoodoo libraries.

It seems, the remake does not even resemble the original Gothic 1 and 2. It will likely have a completely different story, side quests, characters, locations, atmosphere and gameplay.
