I have wanted to play a Gothic game for a long time. Since there are three of them I will play them in order. Putting that aside I am curious if anyone out there who has first hand experience playing any of the 3 Gothic games or both Steam and GOG, wouldn't mind giving me any thoughts you have comparing the two? For example: compatability with modern systems, differences in game versions (patched on one platform, not on the other), censorship on either platform (like the Fallout games), moddability... anything you can think of or remember between the two platforms. I will basically buy the first Gothic game while it is on sale, and I always prefer the DRM free platform (GOG) but sometimes games on Steam work better or are fully patched compared to GOG, or vice versa.

Anyone with some first hand experience? My current system is fairly modern: Win10, 7700k, 3080ti, SSDs, and plenty of hamsters. I thank anyone with experience playing any/all of the 3 games on both platform, anything you feel is worth writing regarding the things mentioned above!? Thanks in advance. :)

I think they are more or less the same versions. I've read that steam release version of G1 i 1.08j and GOG has 1.08k. So a patch may be needed. Besides that GOG version is ready to play right after installing.
