Can I play multiplayer in my LAN without Galaxy?

This is something both GOG and Steam need to be better about, but especially GOG. It's not enough to know if it has multiplayer; we need to know how it works. From perusing Steam forums, it seems the game does not have LAN there, so it probably doesn't here either.

so if it requires GOG does that mean each player would have to have a login/authentication?? This game would be perfect for LAN.... cowards!!
