Well, I finished the game finally. It was fun, but I expecting a little better ending, and a harder final Boss Battle. I had the game years ago, but never made it all the way through; this time I understood it better and it was fun to see it all come together in the end.
All in all a fun time and worth it. If you have not played the game it is worth playing for sure. Pick it up and give it a go, I think you will be pleased.
I just beat it now for the first time. Kabuto's part was a lot weaker than the others to the extent that it brings down the whole game a bit, having no dialog and repetative play where you just go smash stuff. The other two parts were a lot better with amusing dialog as well as more varied gameplay.
I did like the ending. It was whimsical and tied things up well enough.
I found that the key to enjoying playing Kabuto was to forget what had gone before, and just role-play being the biggest baddest thing on the island. Roar lots! It doesn't do anything, but it feels great. Grab a bad guy, impale it on your horns, pull it off again, and throw it into a cliff face. Imagine how utterly terrified the rest of them are seeing you do it. Eat one of them. Roar some more :)
I agree that it's the weaker section (aside from the Reaper-ski races, which I wish they had cut from the game), however there is most definitely fun to be had playing Kabuto!
Although the Kabuto part was a little dull compared to the other two chapters, I would rank Giants as having one of the best endings of any game.
The game was fun. I agree that the Kabuto levels were weak. It was cool for about 10 minutes (getting to grow.. and then watching the thing lay eggs) but then I just wanted it to be over.
But I personally didn't think the ending was one of the best. After seeing what an ending should really be like after playing Shadow of the Colossus, everything else seems kind of mediocre.
Certainly a good purchase, though, for $6. Even better right now because of the B1G1 Free deal.

I enjoyed Delphi's section most - leaping towards a group of enemies with turbo, setting them on fire and then slashing them down with the sword :D. Another combo I liked was the 'slow time' spell followed up with 'summon hail', hehe.
The first two bows are very weak compared to the guns you get as the meccs, so I hardly used them. The more advanced bows are good... but even then, sword and spells were a complete joy to play with.
Kabuto's section was alright - It was different, which was enjoyable, but a few elements seemed useless. The fact you have to order your offspring to do everything was annoying - they don't follow you or attack anything unless you specifically tell them to so I just gave up on them. Likewise, the horn-spearing thing - meant to be a way you can carry a potential meal and eat/throw it when you're in need, I guess, but I hardly used it as the animation takes valuable time you could be grabbing and eating the enemies that are causing you the damage in the first place.
My main problem with the Kabuto section was that I didn't really get a feel for the scale - you're about 100 times bigger than you are as a mecc but the viewpoint is the same so it's more like everything else has shrunk.
The ending was funny and it resolved all the characters' stories, but I don't think a comic game could compete with a more serious game in terms of a good ending - 'epic' will always beat 'funny' of the same quality.
The main thing that made giants stand out for me was the way it gave you three very different experiences as the three different characters, but each experience was genuinely *fun* in its own way.
I'm embarrassed to admit this, but I'm having trouble right out of the gate, on the second Mecc mission in which you have to capture those Smarties hanging from cliffs. Every time I grab one with my jetpack, we plummet into the water and our doom.
Any suggestions? And do I grab 4 at once, or one at a time?

Yes, get on a stone below them wait for your jet-pack to charge and fly straight up at them. If you land in the water (hopefully near a stone) jet out quickly. The drop off is very nearby. Just learn to conserve your packs energy.
Hang in there you will get it. Have you looked at the hints and tips posting?

Thanks, Faithful, I'll keep at it.
Sorry, is there a hints and tips thread? Not seeing it.
EDIT: Found it, your thread. They should sticky it, many thanks.

*spoiler?*
Offspring are handy for one-shotting the evil Kabuto in the 1 on 1 toward the end.
