So Galaxy 2 needs win8-10 to work.

Can someone explain how the hundreds, maybe thousands of win7 users are going to play their games when the force update takes effect please.

Can we stop the update? Will the main client work to install and play my games without all the other feature? (I don't need any of them, Galaxy is just an easy way to install games).

If it will not work in any way with win7 and I uninstall Galaxy will it uninstall all my games like the earlier versions of Galaxy did? I don't want to download hundred of gigs of data again.

Some word from Galaxy people would help, not just "works of win 8-10"

As of January 14th, 2020, Windows 7 has reached the end of it's extended support period. That means Windows 7 will no longer receive updates of any kind, which might incur a security risk.

The current version of Galaxy 2 works just fine on Win7.

It might change in the future, but I'm pretty sure it will run on Win7 as long as it has a significant market share.

I'm not updating to win 10 on this pc because I have a lot of other old games that do not work with 10. Good to know, thanks for that.

This is GOG, every game can just be downloaded by itself and played. You don't have to run Galaxy. Galaxy enables some extra things, but to play your games you can just download them in a browser and install. Games installed already through Galaxy can just be launched without Galaxy running, try it yourself.

Of course. Worst case you will have to do a Scan+Import of your game folder.

You should update all save games, though, as not all of them might use cloud saves.

The long and short of it is that Windows 7 requires outdated build tools that suck to work with, and with the app probably just being yet another Electron self-hosted browser thing, it has to go with Electron's platform support. With Google being an extremely fickle and unreliable upstream partner, it's wise not to over-promise.

Formally not supporting ancient operating systems is just the smart decision to make, and you shouldn't connect any such system to the Internet anyway, which renders the whole point of Galaxy moot.

When i had 7 i just downloaded the GOG 2 online installer on a Windows 8 VM , went into temp folders and found the downloaded offline installer, copied to my main and installed and ran fine. Hope it helps

The only games that really don't work on Win 10 are those which use one of the darned CD based protections (SecuRom et al). And I wouldn't recommend installing any of those without a NoCD patch - and with those patches, they run just fine on Win 10 again.

Thanks for the replies all. I've been testing some of my games by launching them from the game folder's and so far they are working.

I know I can download the off line installers and I will go back to that for new games.

Any-ways I guess it will all work out.

For me Windows 7 - Best Win-based OS (of course after Windows XP). In my opinion next after born dead Win10 Microsoft need move on to the path of light and release Windows 7 Reborn with lifelong servise (service to the end of the universe ＼(^-^)／)!

If they would just stop forcing updates and resetting configurations on Win10 would be a big step in the right direction. I don't like to configure the whole OS every few weeks or so... also, functions change, options disappear, it's very annoying.

I'll use Win7 as long as it will work. Security is provided by my brain, don't need updates.

I'm too still running Win7 for several reasons.
Galaxy 2 runs fine so far and i don't really see any reason why there should be a problem. It's not like this is some low-level 'near hardware' program.
Therefore i hope that it will continue to run until there is some good reason not to do that anymore.
