I started having a recent problem with Uplay immediately closing down after exiting a game. I thought Uplay was corrupted somehow and uninstalled and reinstalled it trying to fix this seeming bug, but it kept happening. I have my Uplay account linked in Galaxy for library purposes but don't usually ever actually launch Uplay games from within Galaxy, no real reason to I can see. I had Galaxy minimized to the desktop tray without even realizing it, running in the background, but I realized it was still taking over my Uplay sessions and killing the Uplay program every time I exited a Uplay game even without being launched via Galaxy. If I have Galaxy closed to the Windows tray and launch a game on another launcher without using Galaxy, I can't see any legitimate reason why it should be monitoring and interfering with the operation of the other launcher.
