Hi there,

I would like to install the beta version of galaxy 2.0 but before I have 2 questions, although directly related:

- if I link my steam account to galalxy, can I launch the game without launching before steam client and having it running as a background app?

- if I launch a steam game via galaxy 2.0 (and assuming I will not need steam to run in the background) will galaxy provide cloud saves? or I need to use steam cloud saves (which implies the steam client running)?

Thanks!

Do we need to give our steam credentials inside Galaxy ?
Of course you have to give steam credentials.
How galaxy will go to magically collect steams games?

I guess steam will be run in the background.
I didn t bother to check, so not 100% sure.
Hi unfortunatly i dont have 2.0 beta but i assume that will work like playnite launcher that mean steam in background and no cloud save via galaxy but maybe they will do something for that

yes that's what I think it does: I've read it should also close the other clients after the game has been shut down, but this function I think is not released yet: right now it should start the client and leave it running even after the end of the game session
Galaxy 2 is a database aggregator and a launcher launcher.

So yes, the adequate launcher will be launched (whether it has drm or not).

So it's dangerous no ? not only steam to be hacked but also Galaxy could be a door to open.

If steam is running in background, is it to says that inside galaxy , it's just a standard link as any steam game link onto the windows desktop ?
And if so, why do we need to give credentials ?

To crawl the games you own on Steam from your Steam account, otherwise Galaxy would only know what Steam games you have installed.
I guess yes.

Not only: GOG can also use your credential in any way they see fit, somehow, like:

* Marketing (number of games, genre)
* Statistics (hours played, etc)
* Identity tracking

Not sure what steam API allow, but if GOG is not open source, they can potentially do whatever they wish with these credentials.

ok so it's pretty dangerous, thank you for your frank warning. At school they often warn us about the dangers of the internet.
So no one should use this program actually.
Hi

I'm not sure you "give" the credentials to GOG.

GOG only establishs a connexion to Steam API. Credentials are checked by Steam when you connect. Steam gives a temporary "token" to GOG in order to retrieves some Data with the Steam API (ex : Steam Games, or Steam Activity).

But steam credentials are not stored in GOG, either locally or in Gog Cloud.

It's the same when you connect to a tiers service like "Doodle" with your "facebook account" . Doodle doesn't store your Facebook credentials.

Well, I don't think your life will end, if you use it.
Perhaps you can have even fun.
Perhaps.

The moment a dialog open, asking for writing your login to steam, and that dialog is by a program, that program can do something with what you write in the dialog, before it is passed to the steam api.

But I don't remember how it worked: if was using the already installed steam for connection or asked for login.
As I removed the beta long time ago.
