After a very short -- just an extended weekend -- with Galaxy 2, I'm going back to Galaxy 1. 1's just far more feature-rich. I can see promise in 2, but I can't believe they released it at all as it is without first making sure it had ALL of the features from 1. I mean, I can't even see which version of a game I have installed or get to the changelog! (Or, if it's possible, it's in some arcane way.) [And plenty of other reasons.]

I sent feedback to the form [that's probably not monitored]. I'm glad I came here to read the FAQ about reversion/running both ("Make sure to install Galaxy 1 into a not-default folder.")

It's a closed beta, it is mentioned that it has missing features that will be added as the beta progress, it never was meant to be "feature complete" it's mostly to test the new UI and the integration with the other stores.

Can you read?it is closed BETA..BEEETAAAA
Yeah, closed beta does not mean 'feature complete' last I checked. Maybe I am incorrect on this.
See you in the release version!

Honestly there is not really any "official" definition that is agreed by everybody, "alpha", "beta" seems to means different things based on the company or even project manager you work with. Some consider a "beta" to be feature complete but not yet in a releasable state (i.e. too many bug) while others consider "beta" as being in a "usable" state but still missing some features, other simply consider beta as being an "alpha" released to third party testers.

Anyway here Gog made it very clear that what they call "beta" is not a feature complete version, so it shouldn't have been a surprise for anybody.

Well, I hope they see you're not testing it and bring in new people who really want to be here! (aplenty per this own forum). You won't be missed!

(hope that's also a message who whoever wants in in this beta... it's a great tool, but much yet to be completed!)

I'm aware of incompleteness and bugs in betas. However, what this is, is barebones, barely functional far earlier than anything I'd refer to a beta. GOG's sadly already fighting an uphill battle. They should have held onto this for another months and then dropped it with more features.
Already I am liking how things are able to be sorted; able to add in games from other distro's and such. I like they are taking the time to do it right

You must have a different version than I do, because I love it on my Windows and Mac machines. It's honestly a great experience and just getting better. I'd like some of the functionality from 1 to come over, like download links for backups (although I now use a Python script to do that, so no big deal for me in particular), and the ability to bring over categories and hidden games from steam would be nice, but not a dealbreaker.

I like also like how they are taking the time to do it right and are taking the community's feedback to heart. This is going to be a great client when it's done. Which it isn't right now.
That's what Betas are for. I also miss the full working features of 1.2, but I joined this to be a beta tester, and report bugs and suggest changes/improvements.
Too many people signed for the beta without knowing what they were getting into...

Like me!

Galaxy 2.0 was the thing that got me to sign up to GOG. I can't wait to start using it, it's something I have wanted for a while now. The same day I heard about it, I signed up to GOG.

They didn't release it at all. BETA isn't a release, particularly not closed BETA which is closer to an ALPHA build. It's more than a proof of concept, but not much more. It's not nearly feature complete, but that's the idea, to fix what's there and have people help debug new features as they're developed. Apparently game devs letting people pay to be BETA testers these days is causing confusion on how software development actually works.

I'm not criticizing you for dropping it (I wish the BETA was a separate install from the 1.2 version so I didn't lose the functionality while testing this) because I did too. But complaining about it is another level of ignorance.

By definition, beta means feature complete, but with problems and issues.

Alpha is the correct version they should have released with.

The fact the is "closed" doesn't affect the functionality level of the program, just who has access to it.
Additionally, I would expect a close beta to receive a much higher interactions with the devs.

All things that GOG doesn't even know about.

Luckily we have you, making this 2.0 perfect, and having a good interactions with the devs, that ask your opinion or monitor your usage closely.

Eh?
