Not sure if this has been asked before but I didn't find any topics. Basically when I turn on bandwidth limiting it works but not to the amount specified in the settings box.

I have a 100Mb/s connection, when I download unlimited it will hover around the 11MB/s mark which is normal. I set the bandwidth limit to 5MB/s, turn it on and it drops to 1.6 MB/s. If I set it to 10MB/s it will cap at 3.6. The moment I uncap it it shoots back up to 11MB/s. Not really impacting as I just play aroun with the amount to end up on what I want to allow, but doesn't appear to be working as intended.

Can confirm this, the limit does not match the max bandwidth used. You have to triple the limit to have the wanted bandwidth. See attached screenshots.

I would like to add a voice confirming the same. I have a 50 Mbps connection, which pulls about 6 MB/s down. I wanted to use half of so we could still stream video, so set the limiter to 3 MB/s. However the resulting speed was more like 1 MB/s. After some experimentation, I found I had to enter triple the desired speed to actually achieve it! Sounds like a dodgy scaling factor somewhere

I can confirm this issue.
i've tried to multiply it with 3 and it gets approximatly the desired speed.
In example:
15MB/s is set, then it results in 4.8 MB/s
the same, as i set it to 15.000 KB/s

Thanks for including the (temporary) solution, I've had to do the same.

Chiming in... I too am experiencing exactly this with the x3 multiplier of desired speed being an approximate fix.

I have the same issue. Unlimited works fine, limited gives you only 1/4 of the speed you've set in the options. Lets hope the next update (whenever that will be) fixes this shit.

This has been an issue for I don't even remember how long. If I want to limit download bandwidth to 5MB/s I need to set it to 15MB/s.

How is something as basic as this still not fixed? Absolutely unacceptable.

Sorry for necroing this thread, but I've realised that today this is still an issue. I've set download bandwidth limiting to 2 MB/s and while the Galaxy client reports using exactly that, Windows reports something else entirely -- Galaxy is still using as much bandwidth as possible. How this hasn't been fixed in three years is beyond me.

I opened a ticked about it and the support agent said they'd pass the information along to the developers, but I don't have a lot of hope that they'll fix it any time soon. With so many things broken as of late, Galaxy development appears to be on life support.

I did find a workaround, although it was somewhat janky. You can fully uninstall the current version of Galaxy and download the old 2.0.58.4 version. The bandwidth limiter worked in that. The auto-updater was also broken in that particular version, so it won't force you to update to the version with the broken bandwidth limiter.
