Star Trek ConQuest Online.
This was the first online game I ever came across & I clearly didn't get a complete grasp on the implications.
The CD case made it look interesting & I'm a bit of a Trek nut.
I was just about 5 years too late & all the servers had shut down :(

The CD has spent the time since doing sterling work on my desk as a coaster.
It's a useful reminder against impulse buying, even if it does occasionally mock me when it thinks I'm not looking.

Hmm. Mother 3.

The SNES sleeper hit Earthbound (Mother 2) is the finest JRPG I've ever played. Most of the attention it gets is focused on its odd sense of humour, but what I love so much about the game is its subtly layered, quietly emotional storytelling tinged with wistful nostalgia. It's quite unique in its genre, especially for its time.

After many years, the sequel finally arrived, but while Mother 3 is recognizable as an Earthbound sequel, I found it discordant, off-putting, and even a bit malicious - almost like a fan sequel that missed the point.

(Also, it's kinda boring.)
