rtcvb32: Well i don't know... I don't work for GoG or see their internal processes, i just know it takes a while before my own reviews actually are up for public viewing... Maybe they are just filtering for spam *shrugs*
Maybe you put links in them? The kind of rants, BS and just spam I have to sift through sometimes is mind-boggling here. xD

For a review? I don't think so... can't think of a reason i'd need to put a link in.

rtcvb32: Somehow i find this rather pointless. Unless the game is substantially different from another distribution method (say Sudeki on the original XBox vs GoG's) then the review about the game is the same, the only difference is the controls and if you used a controller on the Xbox and you use a controller on the PC version then they are effectively the same except for minor inconsistencies (not directly related to the game but how you played it)

I've reviewed the original BloodRayne based on my PS2 experiences; After replaying it from GoG the only difference in the game was that there was no dead zone on the left controller stick meaning Rayne wouldn't sit still when the stick was in a neutral position. Does that make a review based on the PS2 version invalid? I don't think so, it's the same game, just at a higher resolution...

Games i've played and probably reviewed without owning (on GoG) Include: BloodRayne, BloodRayne 2, Space Pirates and Zombies, Bard's tale, and potentially more...

Are my reviews on those games invalid because i didn't own a GoG copy? Are they suddenly validated when i own it on GoG but haven't played the GoG version?

A review of the game should be based on personal opinion and experiences so long as they actually pertain to the game. GoG filters through the reviews before posting them up, so any that obviously don't have a clue what they are saying are probably thrown out.
I wasn't saying that the reviews based on playing the game on another system or platform was bad. I was just thinking it was odd that reviews were exactly the same here as on Steam for the game I was looking at. I only read the first three reviews as that is what GOG shows, but on Steam they were the same 3 first ones. I would have thought the reviews would have been GOG's or Steam's , not both. I guess the users could have been on both GOG and Steam, but I did not look that deep into it.

Ahhh okay.

I would think if they wrote a review for Steam, coming over they copy/pasted it, but you should only do that if they wrote the review...

I wish I could remember the game that I was looking at, but it is not coming to me.

realkman666: That's fucking dumb.
I disagree, then again, I don't believe in reviewers. I usually have to play the game to know if it is good or bad.

Still, I understand what you mean and I believe the "I own this game" flag might help or the other comment forcing the reviewer to a dropdown that says: "I won a box copy" or "I own it on a different Vendor", etc.

So, TLDR:

Your way

Suggested way

My advice: Read the comments of both links.

My opinion: GOG version is like any other:
- If it needs to be patched, you can always find the patch
- If you need to change some settings for it to work on your current system, that can be done, too.

Then again, I'm computer savvy, so I guess I'm only around the 10% of PC users that can actually do that. Others have to wait for GOG to update it or access game's forum and ask for help.

I think it's much closer to 2% or 3% that are more computer savvy. It's a really low percentage regardless.

A lot of people have to tweak files to make stuff work today. Also, I think delaying reviews by a few days would be good too. Finished that epic JRPG in the last 3 hours? Yeah, no.
avatar
GreenDigitalWolf: Maybe you played it on a friend's account or years ago before the game was released on GOG. I see your point though.
I also think about this possibility. And it also goes the other way around. Maybe you own a game but you never really played it and still you can review it and say you own it.

Problem is there that people like to see reviews right after release, so other people produce exactly that.

Case in point. Mark of the Ninja was released on GOG today, almost a year after its original release. Quite a few of us have played the game, and are capable of reviewing it, even though we haven't (yet?) bought it on GOG.
Are such reviews worthless because the writers don't have the game on GOG, or are they worthy because they can properly review the game?

Does it play well?

The version I played was highly enjoyable, though I haven't played the Special Edition content yet. I do highly recommend the game.

The game has three entries. I think I'll pass. That's really shitty.
There should be a filter to see if the reviewer own the game on GOG or not but I rarely read reviews so it's not too important in the first place.
