Yeah, I find it funny how sometimes it takes (for lack of a better term) trauma of our own to teach us compassion for others. You won't learn it in school, or at church, or from your parents, or any of those other places you maybe should, seemingly. Just endure something really challenging on your own and you start to see how maybe shit isn't so easy for everyone.
Hey, I used to be a young idealist too, once.
EDIT: Btw, I forgot to say, good luck, and don't give up on something you feel will make you happy, life's too short.
