wvpr: Including the one chance to pick up Resurrect. Missing that can make the game massively harder.

Fever_Discordia: Maybe you missed it but IIRC the Nameless One gets one resurrect a day as a special ability pretty early on, going up to 2 latter
I don't recall party deaths as being more than a minor inconvenience...
You have to navigate an early conversation properly. If you say the wrong things (they're obviously wrong), or overlook the conversation spot, you don't get it. Apparently there are a couple alternatives, but they're not available until much later, and they're not as convenient, making the game a lot harder.

It's a fairly overwhelming game in many ways, and it's not traditional fantasy. Baldur's Gate is much closer to the easy D&D intro Ashley is looking for.

lightnica: Gothic 2 advertises Win7 support
avatar
Navagon: Falsely.
How about some proof before you go off and call GOG staff liars.
That is unless they've updated it and didn't bother to tell anyone.
Assuming there was anything to update. The copy I have off Steam works perfectly on Win7 despite advertising only advertising support up to Vista.

A new OS version doesn't mean that every program stops working and needs to be updated. The majority work fine, otherwise no one switches the to new OS.

I have the game. It worked on XP. Doesn't on 7. Proof enough for me.

On the other hand, it did work for me. I assume you did all the normal stuff for running a game on Win7 though, so I'm not going to tell you the basic stuff.

Maybe it works with nVidea but not ATI or something weird?

I'm running it on an Intel 965GMA Mobile, so can't say yes or no, even though I think Gothic had trouble with drivers in the past. Still, the question was for Win7, and Win7 is not the culprit here.

Working fine on both Intel and nVidia for me.

I know nVidia had some crap drivers about a year back. King's Bounty among other things wouldn't run.
hi guys i just bought baldur`s gate and i am making my first toon... i am picking ranger since ranged classes are normally good starter classes to play in most games. the problem is i have to allocate my stats and im not sure which stats help me and which stats dont effect me at all D: it says in the descrip that constitution is an important stat for rangers so does that mean i should put all my points that i can into that stat? or are some of them good secondary stats? im assuming that intelligence and wisdom i do not need any of because they are for magic classes but i am not sure...

For a ranger max str, dex, and con. I'd put any remaining points into wis for extra spells (you get spells once you level up a bit).

1. Character screen (press "c", then "g" to get back to the game)
2. Same screen, or inventory screen ("i"). Also mouse-over the portraits to the right.
3. Mouse-over the enemies? (damn it, I should know this for sure, not guess)

4. No. Get the widescreen mod if you want a higher resolution (and thus be able to see more of the game area on the screen), the game is pixel-based, not vectors+textures.

There's a BG forum on this site. There are probably very active BG communities elsewhere, but I can't suggest any.

You can also click or right-click the portraits to bring up the character pages.

There's a tooltip setting that controls how long the game waits before popping up the help texts. That includes enemy names and HP. Other enemy stats aren't available, but you can usually tell pretty quickly when you're in over your head.

Also pay attention to damage feedback during the battle. Certain enemies are immune to some attacks. Fortunately, there are only a few of those enemies in BG1.

I have Gothic 2 working on Win 7 x64 with an AMD/ATi card (HD6870 to be precise), I also have it on my other comp Win Vista x64 with a Nvidia GTX 275. They both worked out of the box (or out of the executable downloaded from GOG as it may be), although some tweaking of the config were necessary to get the in-game videos/scenes to show instead of being pitch black.
