I was checking some old games on youtube and when viewing a gameplay video of Lands of Lore 3 I crearly hear the sound of a World of Warcraft Druid in cat form doing a special attack (I used to play a Feral Druid years ago so I don't know which attack it is)!

Just listen at 0:24 seconds... So even the great Blizzard uses sound effects from some sort of general database. Who knew...

Edit: I meant Lands or Lore 3 sound effect in World of Warcraft ofcourse... ;-)

Most companies won't have their own internal sound recording facilities so they will hire in professional sound groups. The result is that you can hear similar sound effects being used through games, TV shows; heck some sounds even slip into the movies.

There are large sound databases out there as well - for those that can't afford to purchase the services of a sound studio - so there is another source of repeat sound effects being used.
Don't forget that Wow Had been in design already for a few years when it was released in 2003-2004. What year is Lands of lore?

Lands of Lore 3 came out in 1999 and it had much delay so I think they started in 1996 or something like that
The sound effect when it jumps is a wow druid shape shifting. The sound effect when it dies sounds identical to one of the sounds played whilst taking damage as a druid(bear form I think). They are identical though as far as my ear can tell.

I knew my ears didn't deceive me! :-)
There are a wide variety of "stock" sound effects that end up used in lots of different media. There's an animal screeching noise I've heard in Heretic, Blake Stone, and at least half a dozen movies and TV shows, though I don't know if it has a name. This sort of thing really isn't unusual.

And then there's the "Wilhelm Scream." Do a google or Youtube search for it, I GUARANTEE you've heard it before. Probably hundreds of times.
Also note that when producing sounds, it is very easy to make a sound that is similar to another... even if you used some cheap ass software to make it, and the previous creator used $10,000 hardware studio.

It doesn't have to mean that one producer ripped off another, but that they accidentally produced the same (or a very similar one) sound using very different techniques.

Somewhat related... anyone from Europe has a spare Scroll of Resurrection that he doesn't need? If so, can you please send me one?

Both sounds are common in WoW. The first is one of a few that can play when a feline type animal attacks you. The second is the same for death. They're also mixed in with the druid sound effects.

Scares me that I know something like this.
And Starcraft had the same sound effect as XCOM. But it's a stock effect so...

Is it this one? The one at 1:06. I heard it on many occassions. Movies, games, commerical and even some music video I think.

Yep that's the one.
I've heard the sound of the mechanical doors opening and closing in Creatures 3 so many times in scifi tv series and films. It totally does my head in
Of sounds which I've first heard in a game (obviously from generic sound databases):

Magic Carpet's turbo-afterburner "whooosh!" (or rather, "schwuisssss!") sound... I've heard it countless times in different movies and TV series. Interestingly in Magic Carpet it had nothing to do with fire, while elsewhere it always seems to be related to fire, e.g. some wall of fire is ignited, or as a flamethrower sound.

Doom's door "hissss" sound seemed to be used quite often as well, albeit I haven't heard it as often as the Magic Carpet sound.

I think some Starcraft marine death scream has appeared quite often in different places.

I knew this was common, how often have I heard monster and elevator sounds from Doom in other places, but this "Whilhem Scream Compilation" was really hilarious:

You can also read about it on Wikipedia of course:
