I found this browsing my favourite channels on youtube, and all I can add is: Well said. That just about sums up my feelings of why I will never be able to get SS out of my head and ... I want to play it again. Damn it.
Interesting video.
But now my OCD kicked in and I feel the urge to watch all other videos on that channel.
I'm just gonna ... I'm just gonna bump this a bit if you don't mind/
Good video indeed... but Bioshock is still better!!! :P
Thanks for that - it's an interesting video and it's certainly tempting me to finally play the game. I did try once before, but it ran poorly in DOSBox on the old computer I had, and the controls were really awkward. However the mod with mouselook should solve that problem.
superbunnyhop is definitely a great channel. Watch his video on Game Novels, for example, it's hilarious.

I watched the video on SS1 when it came out last month, and I felt like playing it instantly. Haven't got around to it, because backlog, but I certainly will.
Shit! I had never noticed the similarity of the soundtrack to NIN. :) Great stuff!
The last time I played through System Shock 1 was about 4 years ago but I'm listening to the music regularly.

The mouselook mod absolutely solves that problem. I'm in the camp that never had a huge problem with the controls (but then, Terra Nova is one of my all time favourites, and it has similar controls) but there's a massive improvement when you can mouselook, no doubt about it.

In short - play it. Play iiiiit.

At first I thought you were referring to this review:

Be warned though he got all conspiracy theorist when he reviewed Metal Gear Solid 2.

I mean he went from the deviousness of Marketing and Hype to making a George Orwellian reference by mentioning Big Brother in a methophorical way.

(And that book is overrated and means nothing)

Woah! Out of left field a surprise opinion!

Please do elaborate, sir!

Well for one I startred to get a little annoyed that people keeps saying that the book is more relevent in today's world all because of the whole NSA Phone tapping and Facebook/Twitter things, But the difference between what was said in 1984 and whats going now is the in the book the dictatorship can see your Thoughts, what you actually think and just thinking about things against the government can screw you over. Any skilled person and of course the government can see into you accounts or listen to your phone.

Another reason the author himself. George Orwell is a Novelist despite his beliefs (a strong anti facist no less) the basic reason for writing his books is for money. He is just telling what is essentially just a fictional story like how V for Vendetta is a Fictional Story or Blade Runner.

In the end its probably since I am into political science (my college major) and in my classes my professor made no reference to George Orwell at all. And because of that I would rather listen or read the writings of a Political Scientist than a Fictional Novelist. Like Joseph Nye and his topic of Soft Power.

I played System Shock for the first time a year ago. It was amazing, and yet it also kind of familiar. Some elements of the game design I recognize from playing Metroid Prime, especially with the player-driven and interactive storytelling methods (e.g. the message logs). So System Shock has got to be one of the most important action-adventure games of all time, right up there with Legend of Zelda, Metroid, etc.

Admirable, and well expressed.

Thanks!
If it's not a ten part, twenty hour Spoony retrospective that takes years to release, I will not watch it. :P
