cogadh: There is the letter of the law and the spirit of the law. The letter of the law does say that you can say whatever you want, but the spirit of the law is that we will all remain civilized in what we say. The letter might allow people to take it too far, but our own conscience is supposed to prevent that. A perfect example of this recently occurred with that Florida preacher who wanted to burn the Quran on September 11th; legally, there is nothing wrong with burning the Quran or any other book in this country, it is protected as a form of free speech, but morally, doing that is completely reprehensible. Public outcry over it (also protected as free speech) made that completely clear, even to an ignorant bigot like that preacher. This woman making fun of dying 7 year old is really no different. Its a perfect example of "just because you can do something doesn't mean that you should". Perhaps when you have matured a little, you will learn this as well.

GameRager: The preacher backed down due to public pressure on him and bad PR......not because he felt it was the right thing to do.....which goes against free speech IMO. I think he should have went ahead with it, and reped the whirlwind.......fuk he could have just burned one copy in a private setting, and told people later if he did so opr not. That way he keeps his free speech rights and people don't get too upset.

But he backpeddled to kiss PC arse, which is moronic and insane at worst.

P.S. I feel i'm plenty mature, and unlike you I don't need to conform to a majority opinion on what being mature is to feel or be so.
If the preacher did not at least in some way see the error of his ways, then why is he taking the new car that a New Jersey dealership offered him to not burn the books and donating it to a Muslim women's organization? That seems to me to be a sign of his regret over even thinking of doing it. If he didn't regret it at all, then he would have just taken the car and been happy with it.

PS - Maturity has nothing to do with conforming with majority opinion, but has everything to do with being able to disagree with the majority and not be an ass about it.

PoSSeSSeDCoW: I only remember him getting to -7, but I didn't really check that much. Oh, Ezri, those were the days.

Petrell: Didn't UK_John at height of his infamy have negative rep at 20's or 30's? I believe he also had the questionable privilege of being the first to have topic(s) he started locked by admins.
That's definitely possible. I don't really check rep this much.

Okay, there's definitely something wrong/different with the rep system. GameRager went from having -300 rep to -600 rep in an hour. I don't agree with what he's saying, but I don't think he deserves -641 rep for it.
That's the kind of woman I'd like to introduce a crowbar to her face. The one in the garage, not my pants.
This made me sad. I don't have any rage to offer, just sadness. I don't know why anyone would think this falls under free speech, or why anyone would want to do this in the first place. Poor young girl...she's got enough to deal with.

PoSSeSSeDCoW: The 1st amendment right to free speech only protects against government censorship.

Your second sentence is almost exactly what those who opposed burning the Quran said. They said they realized that the guy had a right to free speech, but they opposed his attempted actions.
