BKGaming: Okay here is where I'm confused and running into issues with the packages, terminal says the following:

libasound2-data:i386 - Note, selecting 'libasound2-data' instead of 'libasound2-data:i386'
libasound2-data is already the newest version.

libasound2-data I assume is fine.

libsdl2-2.0-0:i386 - libsdl2-2.0-0:i386 : Depends: libwayland-egl1-mesa:i386 (>= 10.0.2) but it is not going to be installed or libwayland-egl1:i386.

ibsdl2-2.0-0:i386 is throwing me off, which dependency do I install? libwayland-egl1-mesa:i386 is the one I messed up my install of Mint with because it I went to install it and it looked like it was removing a lot of packages which concerned me so I stopped it.

libsdl2-image-2.0-0:i386 - libsdl2-image-2.0-0:i386 : Depends: libsdl2-2.0-0:i386.

libsdl2-image-2.0-0:i386 again should be fine once I figure out ibsdl2-2.0-0:i386.
I know what your problem is with the game and I had the same trouble just less messy.

go to my google drive and download: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bw5Xv02Yq2HrbEZWVkZZSVpzV2s

Download the: witcher_2_libraries_linux_mint.tar.gz file and extract it into your "game" folder where you installed Witcher 2.

The game will run fine afterwards :D

Basically I created this fix myself for Linux Mint 64bit (haven't tested 32bit) to avoid going through all the trouble. It used to stop working right after the Launcher for me as well but after adding the missing libraries it ran fine, (I'm at Chapter 2 in the game so it works).

go to my ftp server: ftp://88.203.18.13/pub/software (if it asks you for a username just type: anonymous and leave password blank.

Thank you, I don't normally like downloading things from unknown sources (can't be to careful) but I am ready to try just about anything at this point in time.

Why do I get this nagging feeling GOG rushed the Witcher 2 Linux version to the site and we are all playing beta testers now. No deb installer, hard as hell to get working.... seems not ready to me.

I understand you perfectly, the file contains the necessary libraries to get the game running. I myself broke like 5 installations of Mint before completely removing Windows and started using Linux as my only and main OS. It was well worth the effort though.

I'm unpacking Witcher 2 as we speak to make sure I didn't miss any details, so keep this page refreshed :P

UPDATE:

Ok so As I was saying, I unpacked the game from fresh and tried to run it in terminal, got to the launcher and I hit play and in terminal I got this:

"./witcher2: error while loading shared libraries: libSDL2-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"

My next step was to unpack the tar.gz file I linked you in the folder named "game" where the game is installed and tried to launch the game again, waited a few seconds after I hit Launch game and it ran.

So I guess I didn't miss anything, one last thing: When you close the game a crash dialog will popup, there's nothing you can do about this, it's something the porting team has to fix but don't worry the game runs fine nonetheless. ;)

A-ha.. take a look at this thread. Probably the same issue with the libSDL.

And yes, that way .deb package would be easier since it has all the necessary packages as dependencies (I do not know about GOG's .debs but I assume the dependencies are in place).

If the necessary libraries are not installed, most likely the game does not start but gives an error. The error can be only seen in terminal window, that's why I asked you to start it from there and post the output here.

Lol, thanks ... I was going to post the output... but again had to do a fresh install last night of Mint so I couldn't try it. I am now unpacking the Witcher 2 again and will try the fixed provided by Ganni1987.

This worked flawlessly, should be posted somewhere until GOG bothers to actually put an easy to install deb installer...Thank you so much.

Last question if anyone knows. Is there a way to add a shortcut for W2 with an icon under Start -> Games?

The one thing I do like about Linux is all games being put here. On windows my GOG games just sit in a folder on the desktop.

Glad it worked :)

For the shortcut right click on the "Menu" > click Configure and select "Open the Menu Editor", on the left colum select "Games" and click "New Item" from the right menu, the rest should be self explanatory.

If you don't want to go through all that clicking every time you want to open the menu editor just go in the menu editor as I explained above select the "Preferences" area and tick 'Cinnamon Menu Editor" so the shortcut appears in the Preferences section.
