I am a huge fan of all things Origin Systems, particularly the Ultima and Wing Commander series. Sp I've been quite thrilled to play through all of my old favorites. Then imagine my shock and horror when I attempted to fire up Wing Commander 3, only to find that the joystick does not seem to move my ship around!!! The weird thing is, it responds to the joystick calibration screen, and can even be used to navigate the menus. Once I sit in the cockpit of a star fighter, the joystick does not respond, except to fire the main guns; fairly useless if I am unable to steer.

So is there any help out there for people have joystick/controller problems with WC3?

I had the same problem at first. You probably haven't activated the joystick controls in the game options. During a mission, you can press Alt+O to go to the options menu and activate the joystick there.

Well, we have a Wing Commander Privateer forum which hasn't been renamed yet. So yes, the Wing Commander forum would have been the appropriate place to ask. I have to say, though, that asking on the game-specific subforums is not a very efficient way to get a solution in many cases. Those forums often receive so little traffic that even if there are people who know the solution to your problem, chances are they might never even see your question.

Edit: Okay, I see now that several people have already asked the same question on the WC forum.

Yes. My question was partially an irony. I have too some problems / questions with some games (ie King's Bounty) but I have my own rule to ask on subforum first then after about week with no answer I am asking here on main forum. So small traffic on subforums has also an influence on me... :/

As Spindown noted, there's a Wing Commander: Privateer forum but not one for WC 1, 2, or 3. Because of this it seemed more appropriate to me to go to the General Discussion forum :-)

Thanks Spindown for the solution! I remember now having to do this back when I played WC 3 in DOS 16 years ago.

Perhaps. I spent quite a bit of time looking for a resolution to this issue and found nothing. It didn't really occur to me to look in the Wing Commander Privateer forum for a Wing Commander 3 issue.
