It seems interesting. But then I get into having two operating systems on my laptop and all that madness lol. Before I try that I would like to ask one more question
What are some emulators that would work with Icewind Dale 2 on Windows? My problem is that my system, for some reason will not play the game at all, as in when I click the Icon, my system never seems to get around to launching it. Not even a process is started.
I hate to clog up the General Discussion up with this, if I need to I'll ask elsewhere.
I see you've run the gambit with the game-specific forums.
Have you tried running in compatibility mode with an even older version of Windows (older than XP)? I'm not a Windows-user myself, so I apologize if that's not possible.
That's just really weird. The game card states that it's compatible with Windows 7. You can also try contacting GOG.com
here for technical support, but they can be ... slow. It does seem a little crazy to, on a Windows machine, install Linux to install WINE to run a game that is supposed to be compatible with version of Windows that you're running. I would trying contacting GOG directly first :). And re-downloading it a couple more times. ;)
Sorry, best of luck!
orcishgamer: Have you tried that game's forums on this site? Not everyone has this game, but most of the people in the game's forums will have worked through common issues with it.
In answer to your specific questions, I do not know as I have no researched that game. I do know WINE is pretty easy to set up on Ubuntu (it takes a few clicks) but you may have video card driver issues if you need 3D acceleration on an older card (like Radeon 9800 Pro days, old).
I checked the game specific forums, it looks like he already tried there. Wine and Linux should be fairly straightforward, but it all seems unnecessary when GOG is supposed to have gotten it working on W7. If it didn't say compatible with Windows 7 then yeah, then WINE and Linux would probably be the way to go, but it does.

@chight10
So I think GOG should do the heavy lifting problem solving first getting it to work on W7 before you do anymore work on it.
