It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Oh, and I did forget to mention that anyone is free to make their own repository. Users would have to add it themselves, but it would give you all the auto-update stuff, and it integrates into the package manager really well.

Miaghstir: It's not like Apple releases new versions more seldom than Microsoft does. At least they cost less though.

TheCheese33: You know how much my copy of Windows 7 would've cost if I didn't buy it through a friend who works with Microsoft? $220. How much does it cost to upgrade your Mac OSX? $30. What the hell, Microsoft?

EDIT:
Oh, wait a minute. It would've cost me $320!
I know, the ultimate ed. cost me 150 Euro AS A STUDENT. And when it arrived I found out it's only an upgrade, so one of my computers still don't have a legal Win7 license. Unless the unopened copies of 98 and NT4 I was allowed to take from work qualify.

Also, that's a full version for $30, not an upgrade license.

You mean that the disk contains the full version of the OS (that is, it has both Leopard and Snow Leopard) so you could use an upgrade version to move from Tiger to Leopard. This though is against the TOS and the EULA. The upgrade version of Win 7 does the exact same thing as Mac OS X does, and can be used in the same way (upgrade from XP to 7) but is again illegal.
Ah, right, they don't sell the full stand-alone, only as part of the Mac Box set (they increased the price of that one, by the way, I bought the one with 10.6+iSuites'09 for about 75 Euro way back when that was new, but Apple's site sells the 10.6+iSuites'11 for 130 Euro). Since you're only allowed to install on Macintoshes, and if you have a Mac you already have an earlier version and are eligible for the upgrade.

No, it doesn't contain both Leopard and Snow Leopard, just like Windows doesn't contain both Vista and 7.

Arkose: This sort of thing is already partly possible with a virtual machine such as VirtualBox or VMWare Player (both are free). While games that are software rendered will often run just fine already, support for games that require hardware acceleration is still in the early stages of development. Due to the enormous complexity of the task it's going to be quite a while before either reaches the heights of DOSBox (which currently runs almost every DOS game and even many Windows 3.x/9x games with the appropriate OS installed under it); having said that, by the time Windows 8 comes out their 3D implementations will have improved significantly.
Yes, unfortunately I already know the limitations concerning windows emulation (some time ago I got into VirtualPC but it was mediocre at best). But that's a great round up of the current situation.

In one way, MS is the most honest here. MS VPC doesn't even pretend to support any form of 3D acceleration, others say they do while just supporting a subset of Direct3D instructions (with no OpenGL at all).

You just forgot that Apple is an hardware seller while Microsoft is a software seller.

With Apple you have to pay for the Mac first, the OS price is just an extra charge to make you pay for something that should be free (sold with the wonderfully phony "we are forced to charge for update" excuse they love so much), it's like if Sony was asking you to pay 30$ every year for the PS3 firmware upgrades.

I'm pretty sure that excuse was only used in conjunction with the Ipod touch and Ipad, and then only before version 4 of the OS.

I don't have either of the devices (my 80 GB Ipod suits me fine, thank you), but heard part of the ravings on the web about it.
