Heretic777: What is the estimated release date for Windows8? I would like to have an idea because I want to get my dream machine with Win7 instead of Win8. I read somewhere that Microsoft is looking at Fall of 2012. Can anyone confirm this estimate? Thanks.
Get Win 7. You'd most likely be able to upgrade (if the motherboard supports UEFI) for the cost of 1 or 2 new games.
And still the majority of users uses Windows XP. What will we get next ? New Windows each year?

It wouldn't be a lie, if I tell increasing number of Windows 7 users is coming ONLY from the fact it's pre-installed on most machines sold today.

I don't know how you guys, but I don't give a crap about new Windows and I still use XP.

Steam Hardware & Software Survey indicates that the majority of gamers (or at least gamers who use Steam) are running Windows 7 64-bit.
Windows 7 64 bit 41.02%
Windows XP 32 bit 18.21%

USERS not GAMERS.

And as i said - the number of win7 users is increasing only, because you can't buy a new PC without win 7. Also, most new components doesn't have drivers for win xp. M$ tries to force new system , and eventually will do it, but it has nothing to do with freedom of choice.

Not any more. As of August, Windows 7 passed Windows XP in desktop share. (That's based on logs collected by W3Schools, so it represents usage, not just sales.)

Windows XP desktop share was 76% four years ago. It has declined by half and is still falling fast. Solid as it may be, it's no longer up to some modern demands.

On link I posted, the median shows WinXP users are still in majority. But yes, numbers are decreasing fast I can agree. But making Windows 8 in the moment Win 7 STARTS to lead in OS usage?

It's not like they used to release that of... oh wait.. umm But Apple doesnt release a new OSX tha...hmm most linux distros only up... bah...

The truth is the ONLY reason XP has held out this long is that Vista was scrapped and rewritten 6 months before it's original release date and so was 2+ years late. If it had been on time (and on spec) You wouldn't be saying this is 8 coming out soon? Yes but 7 will be 3 by then which means they actually waited a year more than they used to.

Indeed, and a big reason why XP is as huge as it is, is because it was preinstalled on machines for over 6 years. If Vista had arrived earlier many who replaced their 4-to-5-year-old WinMe box would have missed XP completely and gone straight to Vista.

Dude, you do realize that XP was an exception because Vista was in dev for 5 years, right? Hell. Microsoft released XP just a single year after Win 2000.
