I just installed Win 7 Pro 64bit and am transferring my old games here. I came across this when trying to play Heroes II, but I imagine this would happen with multiple games with the way I installed it.

I have my OS on a SSD, but I wanted to place my old games in my HDD so I installed the gog.com downloader in C:Program Files(x86) but added a GOG folder on my E: drive.

However, when trying to run it from the E: I was getting an error about it not being compatible with 64bit... do I need to have it in the C:Program Files(x86) folder specifically to work? Is there something special about that folder? Or can I only start the game by using the doxbox in the folder on the E: drive and mount it manually?

I'm trying to get used to Win 7 64bit, so I very well may have missed something obvious. Anyone have a similar problem?

Edit: I tried uninstalling the game and the gog downloader to try again, and it said it couldn't delete all files, so I went to manually delete them and the gogwrap.exe won't let me delete it.

Is the downloader still running in the system tray? When you close it with the normal X it goes to the system tray. You have to manually close it from that to actually exit it.
I was able to delete the gogwrap.exe after restarting windows... I'm reinstalling it now.

I didn't think it was in the system tray, but maybe it was.

I have a very similar setup. When I installed my OS though, I moved my entire User folder to a separate drive. I installed all my games to my E drive (coincidentally), but I don't use the GOG DLer. I just DL through my browser, DLing the files into a backup folder that I create for the game ahead of time, and install to my E drive by running the .exe from the backup folder.

I didn't even know that was possible. Does everything redirect easily with your User folder not on your OS drive? Did you run into any problems with that or does it all work smoothly?

I have a similar backup folder as well with all the extras like the manual, soundtrack, etc. and I leave the .exe file in there too.

I just reinstalled the game and it works from the start menu. But not if I delete that and mount in manually through the dosbox. Is that the only way? To start the game through the start menu shortcut it creates?

Edit: Were you able to move your libraries too? Or are they stuck on the C:?

I have always found I have no issues running games and apps that are linked to them when they aren't in the x86 folder.

It all works smoothly, but it's been a while since I did it, so I can't recall the exact procedure offhand. I do know you have to do a registry tweak though.

Games i run though the desktop shortcut, usually.

As for libraries, I must admit (with red face) that I don't use them, so I've no idea what the answer is for that. If it's something that's normally contained in the User folder though, it will move with everything else.
