Hi,
Like most of you I look at the the catalogue with a mixure of desire and nostalgia, there are loads of games I would like to buy, so what's stopping me? Well, to be honest I just don't know if they will work. I'm running windows 7 on a bog standard (newish 32bit system) . Most of the games i would like 'Panzer Elite' to name but one, only state Vista. Now as Vista is not that far removed from Windows 7. Is it worth the punt? what do you guys think.

Whats the general rule?
is it:
"if it says vista it nearly always works on windows 7"
or is it:
"not a hope, don't risk it. oh and they never give refunds"

can you help?

Cheers

I'd cruise the subforum for the games you're interested in to see if there's any info about that game and Win7.

Speaking for myself, I've had no issues with playing many of my games from GOG on my Win7 64 bit rig. So far I have the following installed on it:

Arcanum
Baldur's Gate
Baldur's Gate 2
Icewind Dale
Icewind Dale 2
Planescape:Torment
Divine Divinity
Temple of Elemental Evil
The Witcher EE

General rule from my experience is that if it says it works in Vista then there won't be any problems for most installations of Win7. If you're concerned about any particular game then you can usually just peruse the forum for that game and spot a topic or two that covers whether or not it works in Win7 (which typically takes the form of "Does this game work in Win7?", "Yep, works just fine.")

I've yet to find a GOG game that hasn't worked on Win7 for me. Kernel wise Win7 is very close to Vista. Vista as compared to XP is a huge difference.

As long as every other review isn't a complaint about the game not working on Win7 (See Dungeon Keeper 2), I'd risk $10 on it being playable.

I also wouldn't expect a refund if things go wrong...

EDIT: Just had to set realMyst to XP compatibility mode, otherwise I couldn't change the resolution. 99% sure this is what the gog compatibility layer does on VIsta it just hasn't been updated to do it for Win7.
