GameRager: It depends on if the company was calling it a spiritual succsessor or if the mags and such were hyping it that way unofficially. But still it was/is a good game. I am playing through for my first time as a dwarf actually over the last few weeks with a few hours each week.
It was Bioware who started it (followed it since the initial announcement). The media sort of ran with it after like they do with everything.

They gutted all the RPG stuff out of Mass Effect one.

Even though it wasn't strictly speaking an RPG, ME is just a shooter now with some choice elements.

Another thing about books. Why the hell are they in games? If the developers aren’t smart, creative enough to convey the plot organically then they shouldn't be making games. I stopped playing arx fatlis once i entered the library with that snake thing in it.
