because I've been a member for over 5 years and I didn't receive a SINGLE birthday present! :D

but seriously, what's it used for? some kind of PEGI setting? does anyone know?

Yeah, I don't know why they introduced it like that, only in few countries age ratings for games have any legal impact, but they do this now.

If you're not old enough, you can't buy M rated games. But you can always cheat with your age, so it's not that problematic.

There has been a user who couldn't buy The Witcher (I think) due to his age. So I'd say age restrictions.
