Hey there pretty new to this forum and its a bit overwhelming. My friend said he has seen something about this a few day's ago but for the life of me I can't find it.

My download for the artwork for baldur's gate 2 is downloading at 9-12kbps on my 8meg line. Anybody have an idea why its like this?

Go here and do the test.

Post the results afterwards.

Many factors can affect your download speed.

I assume you don't have any other network programs/browsers/streaming sites/torrents running while downloading, right?

Yes that is correct no other downloads running.

That speedtest for some unknown reason is very inaccurate.

From 12meg, 60meg, 3.3 meg, 26.56megs. 4 test each with different results.

Sometimes the download takes a while to get up to speed
It also depends on the peering your ISP does; that 8mbit line speed is usually the max speed for internal and peered networks, which means that the speed with which you download from other server can be lower than that.
Your URL is not posted right. It only links to one picture with 3.30Mb/s

Low compared to 8Mb/s

Use this ftp server and start downloading that bin file with your browser.

Give it three minutes for the speed to stabilize and then post the download speed average your browser reports.

You can also use task manager or resource monitor to see any spikes in your network traffic.

Yes fixed the link and yeah only posting the one since the others ones are not possible to get.

Here is another test I just ran now.
http://www.speedtest.net/result/1126842596.png

Downloaded a bit off the ftp and its going about 150kbps to 200kbps.

Just informed my isp to look into it since its not normal.

@Aliasalpha yeah sometimes but if the whole file downloads @ 9kbps then there is something wrong, and it seems to be on my ISP side.

Arg this is driving me nuts just downloaded the hd wallpapers for independance wa2 r and it went almost full speed 600kbps.

You notice that you're from Greece, the download server you gave him is from Greece, and he's from South Africa right? It's normal to not reach that speed, even more so on a server a relatively long distance away.
Hmm it seems to be only the BG2 downloads that's going slowly and as I type this it rockets up to 400kbps...

Can A mod close this seeing as this is happening randomly

Going at 700kbps...

Murphy law it seems.

Firstly I gave him the link to speedtest.net

That speedtest automatically chooses a server near your location and then runs the benchmark.

As you can see from the above posted results:

ISP: WebAfrica
Server: Newlands

So, at first I checked his "short-distance servers" download performance.

However, as our friend, here, posted that he got strange results, below his max theoretical speed limit => I thought essential to also check his long distance performance.

That's why I gave the ftp from my country. This particular ftp has no speed cap so it is great as a benchmark tool.

To sum up, when checking your speed always start with servers near you, but then follow with reliable servers far away. Hence, you can estimate an average of real world performance.

Besides, I don't think gog servers are located near South Africa.
