ovoon: Yea, I'm making one right now with some friends.
Also, I've made a few before, not that they were any good. :P
Me too, but all of my games will be A-1 awsome! :OD

I was working on something a long time ago... never finished anything, but there are some playable projects. Here's one:

J the Squirrel
- download http://vjeverica-game.blogspot.com/2008/08/download.html
- screenshots and video http://vjeverica-game.blogspot.com/2008/08/screenshots.html

It's not in English, but the game is so simple that you actually don't need to understand what is written, you'll know how to play...
I have, twice, as university projects. First one was a Reversi game where I didn't code a thing, but was in charge of the looks of the game (all pre-rendered in Maya). It was simple, but it looked amazing :P

Second, a pseudo sim city. It ended up being pretty basic, what with being a school project, but it took huge amounts of work. It wasn't too entertaining, but simulating all we did (plus the game played itself) was pretty hard. Made me respect simulators quite a bit more :P

Yeah, it's really easy for a simulator to go out of control fast. I learned that doing neural nets, it was really hard to code one that didn't get epilepsy (all nodes firing all the time).
And to give a little plug: some information and screenshots on the casual RPG I'm developing, entitled Kilgazar, can be found at http://www.fascimania.com
Fascimania is an indie game development company I've started.
Never made a game in my life but I've always wanted to try. I have so far only done maps for Combat Mission Barbarossa to Berlin and Afrika Korps because it was easier for me to work with and also worked on all of my computers thus far. [I'd post links to some of the maps I made but I can't seem to get them to work =( Still getting use to this site's forum.]

I'd love to try my hand at making a game when I have the time but I'm not sure where to start that's why I was looking at RPG Maker. Since I have absolutely no knowledge of the skills required to write or make a game so I was wondering what people thought of RPG Maker as it looks like a good place for me to start.

That is a good question. If you know absolutely nothing but want to make a game, where would someone recommend starting?

I've heard Flash mentioned already.

You might check out GameMaker at http://www.yoyogames.com/make
I apologize for this as I am not even a programming newbie as most I've done is ORACLE or html coding, but could someone point me in the right direction to help me to learn the skills to make a game in my free time?

I've looked at a lot of what everyone has been saying but does anyone have recommendations for a book to learn game programming or something similar? I've seen game programming manuals in bookstores but I don't even know where to start. I am in college and have always been interested in programming and I can get by with ORACLE due to my major as Business IT, but that isn't the type of programming I would need to make a game, unless it is called "Chaos: How to scare your Boss and Ruin his Business" with the expansion of "IRS:The Real Boss and Business Killer". Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

@ adambiser & nondeplumage - There's a lot of stuff out there but like I mentioned in an earlier post, I am 100% positive that I could not do any kind of coding or whatever. So I don't think I could use Flash. That is why I was asking about RPG Maker since it seems to have everything set up for it already.

My answer was for nondeplumage's question about making a game in general. I've not tried or played anything made by RPG Maker, but I have played some nice GameMaker games. I think that RPG Maker is pretty similar to GameMaker in concept in that it hides a lot/most of of the coding for you. I'd say it might be the way to go to try things out.

Ah well I figured I'd catch your attention nonetheless =] ... And I'll take a look at it once the semester is over. Thank you for the heads up about GameMaker.
I have worked on a few games, some are out for purchase and some are currently in development
I was involved in the development of one game that came out a couple of years ago. I rather enjoyed the experience.
