Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

I disappear for a few hours, and this happens.

Now from the list of games that is disappearing, it seems Gothic is the only series I had my eye on. I already own Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Penumbra (how come they're going but not A Machine for Pigs?) on Humble, I own Painkiller Black here, and Aquanox 1 & 2 on Steam, and the rest of the games aren't all that interesting to me.

So which Gothic should I go for? 2 or 3 (the rating on Forsaken Gods suggests it isn't that one)? Or is 1 the best, and I don't need to worry (again, how come 1 is still there, but the rest are going)?

They're also famous for being quite buggy. Will I have issues? Is one of them worse in that regard?

The optimal solution obviously would be to get both of them (heck, to even get Forsaken Gods, just to see what everyone is complaining about), but I'm a little hard up...I wouldn't even be getting one of them if gog wasn't forcing my hand :D.

So which should I go for?

The consensus seems to be Gothic 2 is the best in the series.

But if you don't play the first one you miss a lot of continuity, and while 2 makes some improvements Gothic 1 is still very much worth playing.

But yeah since it's going off the site permanently grab 2, Personally I'd say forget about 3 but that's just my personal opinion, After all the patches it's at least a playable game and has attracted it's fans.

Forsaken Gods is pretty much terrible from what I've heard.

Be sure to check out Risen too.

As for Bugs, the gog Version of 1 & 2 have run perfectly for me.

Gothic 1 has a different publisher so for now it will stay. If you were to buy just one game from this promo you should pick the second one.
Buy Gothic 2 !!!
1 & 2.
I'm interested in Gothic too, and it sounds like Gothic 2 is the one to get. Forget about 3 then, despite it going away from GOG?
Yep. Pretty much. If the decision is either 2 OR 3, definitely get 2. It's simply the better game. But if you have the funds it might also not hurt to get both. While Gothic 3 isn't great, it still is a decent game (if you don't compare it to it's predecessor too much).

From what I've heard (I haven't played it myself yet) it is quite good with the integrated community patch. I'd buy it just for having it before it's gone. Leave the so called "add-on" on the shelf though. ;)
heyo gents

care to impart some of that savvy here also?

Sounds good, and that's what I intended to do, and just did. Guess I just needed somebody to "convince" me, hehe =)

The other games on offer didn't really interest me, as I'm not a fan of horror.
It seems there is a very clear consensus, so I'll be going with Gothic 2.
I'll get some money transferred to my paypal on the 1st, so I'll buy it then, but I guess my decision has been made, and the purpose of this thread is complete! I didn't think to mark the thread as a question, but it certainly has been answered.

Thanks everyone!
