A recent bout of nostalgia has got me thinking back to my younger days. Back then my dad used to buy a pc magazine which always gave away a free demo disc.

One time the disc had a pc game on it that I'm currently looking for.

As far as my memory serves me, it was a 3D third person action/hack and slash game in which you played a knight who fought demons (mainly walking trees in the demo). I also seem to remember being able to use items like potions.

For some reason I associate the word 'quest' with it (not entirely sure about this, since I was playing quest of glory around that time as well).

It's been more or less 10 years since I played it (possibly even 12), the magazine was discontinued and I can't even remember its name. Still I'm trying to find out what game it was, and I know there isn't much to go by, but any help would be very much appreciated.

Some more information:
* It was a Belgian magazine that was also for sale in The Netherlands.
* Drakan for ps2 somewhat reminds me of it.

Thanks :-)

Summoner?

gameon: Summoner?
It wasn't summoner. It was from the same time but was a bit darker and as far as the demo went there weren't any real spells.

One of the 4 player characters in Severance: Blade of Darkness is a knight. Maybe the demo was for that game?

From that era, there is also Rune, a viking-themed third-person hack and slash.

And older than those two, Die by the Sword (available here on GOG).

Oh, and also Enclave, a game released in 2002.

That's all the 3D third-person hack and slash games that come to my mind, apart from Drakkan: Order of the Flame, the sequel to which you've already mentioned.

Thanks for helping, while it's none of those games, you did help me recall some great games that should still be buried somewhere in my attic, waiting to be played again.

EDIT:
Heh, seems like a friend found it for me. It's King's Quest 8: Mask of Eternity, the only game in the series that was action oriented. Not a real hack and slash game, but it just goes to show how you can never trust your own memory too much.

Especially since those "walking trees" turned out to be blocky, brown, trollish creatures.

Thanks for the help :-)

It's absolutely not that game, but this thread reminded me of Moonstone: A Hard Day's Knight. An absolutely fantastic game, that I urge everyone who are unfamiliar with it to check out. The Amiga version for preference.

I wish someone would do a proper remake of that game.

Knights of the Temple perhaps?

Ah, glad you found it. I was going through this list, taking note of more possible 'candidates', and had actually skipped Mask of Eternity thinking, 'Nah, can't be a King's Quest game'... :-D
