Depends. If you intend to play Gothic, know that both first and second have it's strengths and weaknesses. The first one has a fresh story, memorable atmosphere and some great secrets. The second one has less of these, but the game mechanics have been improved and fractions are more detailed and varied (town, farm, monastery). All in all, both are worth going through, so why not start at the beginning?

Not at all. I played BG2 before I played BG1. The beginning of BG2 (and its box, back when it was in stores) gives you the scoop on what happend to your protagonist in BG1, so Bioware like made provision for such I guess.

Now is it better if you play BG1 before BG2? Everyone has their own answer for that, but I'll say that I'm no worse for the wear for playing the 2nd before the 1st. And the 2nd game is the one that is most noted for its incredible depth in all respects.

The Gabriel Knight series and the Baldur's Gate series.

If you want to get into BG, I recommend getting both and starting with a modded BG1.

Thanks , but i think i'll pass those .Played the demo of The First Encounter and i didn't like it . I'm thinking about Messiah , Evolva , Judge Dredd ,Second Sight , the MDK and Blood series .

I played MDK2 few years back and it wasnt bad game, it was interesting and fairly hard. First Blood is highly rated fps. Dont know much about others.

I can help you out about Evolva, it's dull, really dull. I haven't played Messiah but it always looked cool, I'd go that route.

Of those, the only one I've played is MDK, but it's really fun. Definitely recommended. Fans of MDK apparently had mixed feelings about MDK2. I'll find out for myself when I eventually get around to playing my GOG copy.
