I AM BACH. So, OK, here's the story. Like two minutes ago I turn on my computer and it showed the HP screen like normal-Then it just went to the screen that only had the mouse hand on the screen that I can move with just a blue background. What the FRICK do I do now?

Johann Sebastian or Barbara?
CTRL+ALT+ESC -> File -> New Task(run) -> Explorer.exe -> Enter

If processes doesn't come up, good luck :)

Don't care.LOLZ but if you're serious, NO. I tried that before and it just screws it up (for my computer) EVEN FRICKEN MORE.

Seems that your OS installation blew up. Do you have installation disc?
You can try repairing it, but i highly recommend full reinstall.

Also before that you can try booting into safe mode (Press F8 before Windows starts) and see if you can go there.

It's highly unlikely (I would say impossible, but just in case) that restarting it can do any harm unless windows update is running....

Well, I wasn't installing anything, this happened when I booted up the computer. My computer CAME with Vista and the only things I have "installed" lately is just some FSX freeware. The last thing I actually installed was SimCIty 4 back in April.

A normal software install is (mostly) unlikely to cause an error like this. I would expect that you probably have a hardware problem, most likely your hard drive. A repair or re-install of the OS might fix the issue, or it might confirm that your hard drive is bad.

A really stupid and simple 5-second suggestion: unplug all USB crap but your mouse. Or even your mouse. Reboot and see if it works.

Sounds dumb but my laptop will not boot up if my phone is plugged in - gets stuck on the black Windows splash screen until I unplug the phone, then it finishes booting as if nothing has happened.

I agree, Beer..It's worth a shot if that's the case. same thing happened to me when my IPod was hooked up to my computer..took me 20 mins and constant raging before i realized what the problem was
