Hello everyone !
Born in 1992 and coming from a non-gaming family, I'm quite new in (old) PC gaming. I already bought some games like the Fallout, Jagged Alliance, Arcanum and some others. I'm quite in love with cRPG and specially in a steampunk/sci-fi universe (fantasy is not really my thing). So I made a list of games that can interest me, but I don't know what are the must buy and I don't feel like paying 60$ for the whole cart. Can you help me to choose 5 to 10 games before the holiday sale is gone. Thank you !

If you want a good mix of gaming styles and history

WC3 : only if you have a joystick, a classic space sim with good story and "fmv"

Sim city 2000: is the classic city building sim you will lose many hours to it

Alpha Centauri: if you like Civ you will love this, still my fav of the "series"

Capitalism Plus: this is not an easy game to the point when it came out it was being used on university courses, but that makes it so much more rewarding

Blood: a old school fps, if you liked doom give this one a try

what games do you enjoy playing? Open world? level based? Story?
A distinct lack of RPGs for someone who's interested in them. Steampunk pretty much is fantasy. Unless it's alternative history. But I get what you mean. You don't want the swords and sorcery kind of fantasy.

If you want a less conventional fantasy world then you might want to consider Planescape Torment. If you like adventures then I reckon you'll appreciate Sanitarium too.

Off your list I'd recommend:
Temple of Elemental Evil
Alpha Centuri (Sim City 2000 has been surpassed, this one hasn't)
Blood
Stronghold
Age of Wonderrs
Earth 2160 (I prefer Earth 2150 though)

I'm not really into flight sims and space sims.
I would recommend Temple of Elemental evil its a good game although can be very unforgiving and i would recommend tracking down the mod (cant remember the name of it) which makes a large number of changes to the game.

Age of Wonders would be my 2nd choice if you like turn based fantasy i do love the music for it which is good old mod music from the days of the amiga and atari st and makes the game a bit more it feel like a blast from the past.

A good mix of 5 games:
The Temple Of Elemental Evil
Freespace 2 (have a look at the mods!)
Alpha Centauri
Blood
Stronghold

Wing Commander 1, 2 and 3 are great (similar to Freespace 2 which offers a lot more gameplay due to its mods). Sim City 2000 is pretty good as well but there are already two strategy games in my Top 5-List above. Aquanox 2 isn't that bad. An underwater-"space sim" (and Freespace 2 still offers more). Independence War is... special. I like it... sometimes. But I prefer every other space sim (+Aquanox 2) from your list.

The other games I don't know. I've seen a little bit of Comanche vs. Hokum, Capitalism, Earth 2160 and Constructor but never played them.

Thanks to all of you ! If added Age of Wonders and Freespace 2 to the list.
I will take a look at this mod also, when I'll finish the game!
Thank you again and have a happy new year!
