More than just the size, it's shaped like you're supposed to make some use of those horn things, but that would be a mistake because then ones fingers would cover the buttons that they're supposed to press at the base of the finger.
As for the XBox controller, I've got both and the Xbox controller is barely any larger than the PS3 controller is. But, it's shaped in a way that doesn't punish people for not being children. If the PS3 hadn't debut at $600 it would be a bit more understandable.

Though, some of the revivals/expansions are rather questionable.
Now, this year HAS sucked a lot for NIntendo, in any case. Iti s baffling that they would not bring titles such as Xenoblade out of Japan and Europe (and Australia, arguably). It truly is the swan song of the console, it is pretty goddamn strange that they would not publish it AFTER the localization is already finished.
Nintendo has rarely been in the position of being able to blow the competition away with graphics. There was that period in the 80s before the Genesis debut, but that's been about the only time I can recall where they were ahead graphically.
