Jet Force Gemini is brilliant and I got a sudden urge to play it again. Glad I and my brother have held on to our N64. The controls are a bit clunky and gathering all the Tribals is an excruciating pain in the gluteus maximus, but I still love the game to bits.

Curiously, JFG is probably the first game with an over-the-shoulder-esque camera. Technically, it's not OTS; the character stays in the middle of the screen but because he/she/it becomes transparent the result is pretty much the same. That's six years before Resident Evil 4.

It's old... very old... but 'Chaos - The Battle Of Wizards' was one of the first games by the overlord of turn-based strategy, Jullian Gollop. It's basically chess but you start of with no pieces and have to choose and 'cast' them from your randomised spellbook. You're constantly adapting your strategy based on your creatures, stats and what is going on with the other (up to 8 PC or player controlled) wizards. The AI is probably basic but it nearly always gives you a challenge.

I must have played over 1000 games of Chaos and still enjoy it now as a browser based game that is fairly easy to track down, and there's even a version for mobiles.

Heh, I've never finished the game, myself. The part right after the first fight with Mizar where you have to collect all the ship parts was just beyond frustrating. Especially the vacuum with the gems.

However, that aside, that's still about 6-10 hours of gameplay I got out of it up to that fight and it's still one of my favorite games. I guess I should go back and attempt that again.

I also wish people would make more games in the Rare style. The overall moods of those games aren't seen anymore very often. :/

It is a lot easier to find if you are willing to import it from Europe. Over here it is semi-common.

Better than me. I played all through the game only to fail at the last or next-to-last battle because I didn't have enough ammunition left or wasn't strong or smart enough, with no chance to fix that. (And at that time I didn't even have regular access to the internet to look for strategy tips.) :(
