Okay so I'm looking at my laptop specs and I'll admit, I am no computer wizard, so I'm wondering about what my laptop can run.

I've tried Drakensang which I can run at nearly all highs without any problem if you need any benchmark.

Also I have the specs in front of me but I don't know what is important so tell em what is important and I'll tell you.
Processor (CPU)

Memory (RAM)

Graphics (GPU)

Windows version (OS)
And free hard disk space!
And desktop background. Mine is Minecraft, which means I have the most powerful computer in the world.
Processor: Intel Celeron 900
Memory:3GB
Graphics:I think it is Intel GMA 4500M
Windows: Windows 7

And I have over 170 GB of free harddisk space so I'm good on that part.
Can You Run It?

I have two problems with this:

Firstly Can You Run It wants to install crap on your PC, which I don't want.

Secondly that only really works if you have a specific game in mind.

So, to answer the OP's question, if your laptop can run a 2008 game at almost full settings, you should be alright to run any pre-2006/2007 game on high spec without too many problems (except Crysis, of course), and it'll probably play most recently released games if you're willing to tone down the graphics.

I'd be surprised if you found a game here on GOG.com that you simply can't run on that machine.
I just gave it as an alternative, not as the only solution. You can always uninstall/delete the file afterwards, unless you do not want to install Java in the first place.

I myself have a problem with it: it does not support Linux. I mean, if I want to run a game with wine on Linux, I cannot use the website to check whether my laptop meets the requirement or not. Since the file is in Java, which should be cross-platform, I hope in the future it supports Linux as well.

So I just gave it as an alternative, not as the only answer to his/her question.

Fair enough, and you raise a good point, although I suspect that Windows and Linux report system hardware specs in a different way - this is wild speculation but I would expect that it's a failing on Sun Microsystem's part that Java doesn't have a standard interface for harvesting information on system specs across OSes, rather than a failing on the application's part.

Yeeesh, not much with that setup. The celeron and x4500 kills almost any chance playing a 2007-2010 game with a decent resolution, never mind at decent settings. I might be wrong, but even at low settings and resolution the game will run horrible. The x4500 never was supported by intel enough and the drivers for it are quite poor. I would definitely recommend demoing a recent game before purchase.

However it's very beneficial you are on this very site. The vast majority of the games aren't resource heavy at all, and are great games to boot. You might even be able to play far cry well enough.

Hope this helps.

Oh and I forgot to mention, I'm sure youtube has plenty of videos of games running on the same or similar set-up as yours, it's always a good indication of what to expect.

Hmmm...I guess I might be able to Neverwinter Nights 2. But no demo, which is stupid in my opinion but whatever, I can still run Mount and Blade with mostly max resolution with lag so I'm good.
