StingingVelvet: R.E.M.
Talking Heads
New Pornographers

I don't think I have ten, those three are far and away better than anything else. I guess Whiskeytown is up there, but I look at that more as Ryan Adams' early years.
I'm ashamed to say I didn't discover the new pornographers until their latest album, maybe it was the dumb name I dunno. Strange you like them but no mention of arcade fire? even though their music isn't a copy or anything I think they come from the same mould.

I like Arcade Fire, I also love Destroyer, they just aren't as clear favorites as the three I listed. Those three are the bands I have loved the most for 20 years now and listen to regularly more than any other group.

Of all the good folks here, you and I would probably have the most reason to share music...

I love Ryan Adams but I don't tell anyone that... because they always think I said Bryan Adams... and I just can't have anyone thinking that about me :-)

It really is a constant source of aggravation in music conversations.

TOOL.
Tool was oh so close to making my list. It really is everything that music should be.

It's everything music should be and it didn't make your list?

I don't listen to Tool so much anymore. That is probably because it's not my husband's cup-o-tea. So I posted a list of musicians I love and am currently listening to regularly.
Amon Amarth
Fear Factory
Bad Religion
The Haunted
The Misfits (the old stuff)
System of a Down
Hatebreed
Sublime

Well thats my top 8 and I can't think of anymore off the top of my head.
Throwing my list onto the woodpile late:

1) Rasputina
2) Tom Waits
3) Pavement
4) Camper Van Beethoven
5) Cracker
6) The Decemberists
7) The National
8) The Cranes
9) Do Make Say Think
10) Azure Ray
No order...

Pixies
Flaming Lips
Sebadoh
Pink Floyd
Pavement
R.E.M.
Slowdive
Yo La Tengo
Talking Heads
Grizzly Bear

Currently though. Subject to change. Mostly a fan of shoegaze, lo-fi and folky crap.

Me too, a good portion of the time. Used to be a huge Cocteau Twins fan, those Godmothers of shoegaze, and currently listen to a lot of Constellation Records stuff in their post-rock catalog.

Like your list. Have to check out Grizzly Bear; they are new to me. If you like Sebadoh, check out Lou Barlow's Winning Losers, a hodgepodge of his earlier, four-track stuff that got mostly overlooked in the Seba-Shuffle. Call it "Garage Folk," definitely melodic lo-fi stuff. He also has a newish album, "Goodnight Unknown," which is also a great bet.

Tool is awesome... I even ordered a poster from one of their old concerts because I love Tool. :)

I'll be sure to check out that stuff, I've become a big fan of Lou Barlow's projects (early Dinosaur Jr albums are pretty cool). I'm really looking forward to the releases of 'Bakesale' and 'Harmacy' this year with the bonus tracks (the III bonus tracks were really cool, I still need to pick up Soul and Fire).
