I'm really trying to expand my PC game library & I absolutely hate having to put a disc in EVERY SINGLE TIME I WANT TO PLAY A GAME. That being said, the only foreseeable way around this is just to download my games straight from the internet.

I already know about Steam (who doesn't) & Direct2drive (which I'm not to much of a fan of) but are there any othere good ones that I should know about?

Great (and quick) customer service via email or Twitter, good sales, big catalog and no need for a software client. You use their downloader/installer to...errr...download and install the games. Simple.

Impulse
Run by Stardock they have some amazing self published strategy games (GalCiv2, Sins of a Solar Empire, and Elemental), most of the rest of their catalog can be found on Steamtend to be on par with Steam for prices.


DotEmu
Kinda like GOG but not as good IMO. Focuses on older games.


Gamersgate
Another general digital distribution site. I'd personally place them on the same level as D2D. Just below GOG, Steam and Impulse.


Games for Windows Marketplace
Recently re-released, Microsoft's jump into Digital Distro. Not much worth talking about but they have had a few super sales (games for less than $1) so even if you look at it as DRM ridden rentals, it's still worth the price.


Both Amazon and Gamestop have Digital Distribution sites, but I'm not sure I'd bother with either. Everything can be found on other sites (Steam, GOG, Impulse, etc. etc.).

Additionally you always have the publishers own sites like EA, Ubisoft, Atari, and such. I tend to avoid those and just get the games from somewhere else, unless it's a steamworks game that can be registered on Steam.
