This was one of the early games that made gOg a compelling place to get the classics. Unfortunately, some publisher / developer problems caused it to be yanked for, what, 2 years or so? Something like that. Anyway, this classic was removed from the catalog and it didn't get the love it deserved.
Fast forward to earlier this year - or maybe it was last year, no matter - and the game is re-released as ArmA: Cold War Assault. This coincided with the addition of ArmA Gold Edition to the catalog. So there it is: two games with fourteen squillion mods, maps, and add-ons, and you have suddenly enough gameplay for the next 5 years.
If you don't know about the game already, some will categorize this as an FPS, which, I suppose, it is, but it's also been more-accurately described as a military sim. There's no automatic healing-while-resting mechanic, run-and-gun will have you killed in moments, and the save game feature made you strategize over even that game function.
Huge open game worlds, no set way to approach even given scenario, large selection of weaponry and vehicles, squad tactics, it runs well on low-power hardware, and that aforementioned enormous collection of add-ons... total classic.
So here's Operation: Flaaaa... I mean, ArmA Cold War Assault

I know it's a free game and all that, but if it's going to languish on your game shelf, swapping war stories with the other unplayed games waiting to be installed, then please leave it for the next person who will install and actually play the title.
