Let's hope MGS5 sells good enough to grant a port of no.3 and 4! While this is a series I always wanted to play (I never had the chance to do so, exception made for the first chapter on PC), I'm not sure starting from the last installment would be a good idea... isn't Kojima famous for extremely convoluted plots?

Piranjade: I'm having an eye on the development of internal emulators that is happening but so far I'm not convinced.
Frankly, neither am I. I cannot speak for the PS, but on the Xbox360 (at least, in my experience) the emulated games tended to have significant slowdowns and frequent crashes. A few ran perfectly fine after some annoyingly long loading times (like Ninja Gaiden. 2-5 minutes required to load a level!), others had impressive framerate drops (like Prince of Persia: the sands of Time. Given the precision it requires, a few sections were PAINFUL).
I kinda feel the same.

I used a "PS4" for a while before it launched, liked it because hardware and UI were so much better than the PS3, so I pre-ordered. But it has not offered much that I didn't already have.
I have played a number of games on PS4 but mostly because I got them for free from work, or because someone lent them to me. Never spent a lot of time in any one of them.

One of the things that turned me off a bit as well is the fact that it is too much social/free-to-play/micro-transaction focused. And that's where several AAA games are going as well. I knew I would not like it, but I did not expect it to reduce my enjoyment so much.

I am considering selling it in order to make room on my desk and buy a graphics card for my desktop PC which is running only an AMD APU right now.
The only reason I keep my PS4 for now, is because I am seriously considering moving to linux as the main OS on my PC, and then the PS4 would allow me to play a lot of games that are not available on linux.

snowkatt: even sony has no idea why the ps4 is selling like it does
they are off course elated by it but even sony has no idea

isnt that odd ?

If I were to buy a new-gen console now, it would be PS4. Reasons:

- PS4 appears to be more powerful in gaming, at least that's the feeling I get from all those reports that some developers are having a harder time to offer full HD resolutions on some XBone versions, but not so much on PS4.

- Sony seems to have concentrated more on gaming. MS made a multipurpose "multimedia center" that seems to be targeted mainly to US TV users (ie. it caters for all kinds of US TV (sports) services that don't even exist here). And does it still have that problem showing EU TV standard, causing jittery?

Being able to watch Netflix through it here is not good enough, I could watch that with about any device nowadays, even my microwave oven and my electric toothbrush.

- PS4 is cheaper, I think?

- Oh right, and that "DRM is gooooooooooooooood!"-mess by Microsoft. Yes yes, you backpedalled from it and maybe publishers will add forced social features to their games anyway, but it showed on whose side you really are. I consider you customer-hostile nowadays.

Microsoft doesn't need to fret though, I am not going to buy either console for now. Maybe later (but then that is what I said about the earlier generation too, yet I skipped it).

I think it's great. I appreciate their honesty and even humility in this case. They focused on making a good product designed for their existing user base whereas MS tried to brainwash people with buzzwords and they (Sony) were rewarded for it. The way Sony is reacting to this success suggests that they will remain on course or at least that they really wish to do so.

Yeah, Sony really treats their customers well. Can you imagine Microsoft giving a shit about bringing a cult classic PC adventure game on their console like Sony did with Grim Fandango, they didn't make it exclusive either unlike Microsoft which took a multi-platform franchise like Tomb Raider and made it a timed exclusive initially confusing everyone to make it appear as though it was a permanent exclusive.

The answer is really simple as to why people are buying more PS4s instead of Xbone, Sony treats their customers with respect and did not try to shaft them like Microsoft initially wanted to with their absolute DRM control policy or try to force a useless add-on accessory on them like Kinect 2.0 which still doesn't work as advertised.

Plus the PS4 has more power. I think the fact that many of the next gen games have a higher resolution (and maybe more other details as well) on the PS4 than on the Xbone is also worth a lot. Not as much as the way they treat the consumers but it's also something.

I'm also pretty excited about Morpheus, Sony's own VR project. With Oculus Rift there's still a chance that Facebook is going to ruin everything, I have no doubt that Morpheus will be designed specifically for an optimized gaming experience with no strings attached.

Yeah that too, I read a story that the developers of Diablo III were forced by Microsoft to make the game 1080p which was initially 900p, they were told anything below 1080p was unacceptable. Later Phil Spencer denied this and said that developers are free to release their games according to the best performance optimization that they want and there is no compulsion by Microsoft. ;)

personally i am quite happy with my ps 3
i got more games on it then i could reasonably play even with out ps plus ( with ps plus it would be insurmountable )

and both my laptop and desktop have served me well so far

Punished_Snake: Yes, PS3 in still a fantastic console. Basically it has all the better games from PS2, plus all the exclusive for PS3.

Some people say that a lot of people buy PS4 to farm bitcoin, but I don't know how they can do this.
Mining bitcoins with regular computers (cpu+gpu) is worthless since major miners started to use FPGAs and -more recently- ASICs, that increased the difficulty too much, ps4 doesn't have any magic component on it, it's basically a PC, so I don't think that's good for mining BTC while you can get USB ASICs for the same price and they will do a way better job.
I hear you. I have my PS3 and was super excited when they finally announced the PS4. I fortunately don't have the money for one. Fortunately b/c so far the games for the PS4 are meh. I have so many games to still get through on the PS3 (thanks playstation plus!) that buying a PS4 isn't happening anytime soon.

I'll probably always have both a console and a computer for gaming. Some games I just feel play better with one or the other. For instance, I hate playing scrolling games on my computer. Also, I have friends and family that I play with either on the console or the computer.

Yeah, I was only able to save enough to buy a PS3 at the end of last year and consequently have a boat load of games available to play (PS Plus is great) so I am also in no hurry to get a PS4 yet. Though in the future I am sure PS4 is going to have a great selection of games as well because Naughty Dog's output alone is enough to justify getting the console. Microsoft outright admitted that they don't have anything that can compete with Uncharted 4 so that is why they acquired the new Tomb Raider as a timed exclusive.

I have also had atleast one console along with a PC ever since I started gaming all those years back with the Atari 2600. :)

F4LL0UT: What?! I thought the PS1 games also only worked on the 60 GB model! O_O Dammit! I need to stock up on PS1 games!
avatar
Punished_Snake: Nope, any PS3 model can read PS1 games.
Only 60 GB FAT PS3 can read PS2 games.
That's interesting, I'll have to look into that. I didn't realize that any PS1 games would play, I thought they'd pretty much removed any backwards compatibility when they released the slim.

But, I guess the PS1 compatibility didn't require any special chips the way that the PS2 compat did.

I was cursing MS when I read Tomb Raider was going exclusive. Thank god it is only for a time. I am still angry Fable 2 isn't on PC.

Yeah, but it wasn't a certainty whether they would release Fable Anniversary Edition on PC either, so who knows they might release Fable 2 on PC as well eventually. :)
M$ is crap, plain and simple. Look at what they did to AoE2 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2PEXEO2ga0
That is beyond saving, beyond human, even.

Anyway, how much ever it sells or not, I don't think they'll be showstoppers in emerging markets. Both really don't have any titles that are absolutely worth playing yet, and playing AAA games only will retard people beyond recovery. And the PS3 is looking more and more viable in comparison when you see the drought of games on the next gen consoles. The XBone is a sad mess, which is indicated by M$ pre-release offers here in India. Literally giving stuff away with it won't even justify buying it, especially for Rs.45,000; which is enough to build a good gaming rig, and you can use it for non gaming purposes.
