I was thinking about the old animated series "The Real Ghostbusters" a few weeks ago, and remembered an episode where they mentioned the "New Jersey Parallelogram". Now I know it's sort of another take on the Bermuda Triangle, but it struck me that they might also be making fun of New Jersey, as is fairly common for New Yorkers to do. It took me more than 20 years to get the possible humor in this! (Episode "Venkman's Ghost Repellers" from 1987.) How complete was my embarrassment, but boy.. did I ever laugh at myself for this.

How long was your longest delay for a joke?
Reminds me of Star Trek: Generations when Data installed his emotion chip and finally got the joke that Geordi had told him 10 years earlier in the very first episode of the show.

lol I must admit, that was a good moment in the film. ^_^

In my defense, I probably didn't know about the New York/New Jersey rivalry thing, back then.
There's a movie called "Top Secret" (that's the name of the movie, I'm not trying to cover up anything) released in 1984, starring Val Kilmer and directed by the Zucker brothers and Jim Abraham. It's one of those satires, making fun of spy movies and along the lines of "The Naked Gun" or "Airplane" where all sorts of weird, wacky, non sensical things happen in the background and you actually have to have a sharp eye to get some of the jokes, though most of them are pretty bad or overdone.

There's a scene where Kilmer and his lady costar are in a park and they spot a couple of german guards about to walk past them. Since they're being sought after by the law, he kisses her passionately so the guards think they're just a couple in love while they can hide their faces this way. While they're kissing, you can see in the background a large statue of a pigeon. Three men drop from the top of the screen waving their arms like they're flying down, they land on top of the statue and start peeing on it. When the kiss is over, you can see them waving their arms again and flying off. I never got the joke in my early teens, but laughed when the pigeon statue poops in the background after Kilmer and his costar are gone.

Fast forward 25 years later. My brother has bought several old movies we enjoyed as kids and I borrow some from him (including Top Secret) and find out... I pretty much had a stupid sense of humor back then since a lot of the stuff we saw wasn't even that funny. Stuff that you think it's awesome as a child should very well be left alone, because your adult, mature brain will ruin those memories if it's ever exposed to them again (unless we're talking classic video games!)

I sit down to watch Top Secret with my wife. She doesn't even laugh once and we start making fun of my taste in movies as a kid. Then the pigeon statue scene pops up and I tell her I never got the joke as a child and she says "Well, pigeons poop all over statues of humans, so now humans are peeing all over the statue of a pigeon"

"BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!"

I slapped my forehead and was actually laughing at myself for needing assistance to catch something so simple and silly. I feel pretty dumb just typing this and not getting it the first time.

Hey! "Top Secret" is one of the greatest Val Kilmer movies ever made! Second only to "Real Genius".
I'll have to watch "Top Secret" some time. I remember seeing the previews for it, but missed it. Sounds like a good one for those that like that sort of humor. (That certainly includes me.)
...and Peter Cushing is in it! That seals the deal right there. :)
Rooster Teeth, the guys who make the awesome Red vs Blue series, is I think a clever twist on the term cock bite, or cock munch. Those sneaky bastards! I've been watching them since forever and I just got that not too long ago.
Well, I was Married over 25 years ago and I am still waiting for the punch line ;-)
